What you have now will provide hours of pleasure from your HT. If you are using a regular DVD player I would get a Bluray player before I even started thinking of an amp.
If you have a BR, and are using the new sound formats, then what an external amp brings to the game is, generally speaking, more, and cleaner, power which usually results in a better, more detailed sound. Personally, I would stick with 5 channel versus 7 at this time. Equipment costs less, you need two less speakers, and you probably experience 99.9% of the surround sound effects.
Of course, if you like the amp then you will start thinking of speaker upgrades, better inter-connects, and better speaker wire. It is a never ending process.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes
Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables
Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
Three 20 amp circuits.
