Well I went to the store the other day to buy a few items and bought some ice cream which I rarely eat so after perusing through the hundreds of options I chose banana split, I decide to have a bowl a minute ago and realized that it tastes a little different than I expected so I look at the container a little closer and see that I managed to grab the sugar free version with reduced milkfat also, what a mistake that was, a couple weeks back I managed to grab a package of decaf coffee. I dont want low fat, low or non sugar, decaf or any reduced anything, I want the full flavor version of food that used to be everywhere but now seems to be in the minority.

Also it seems to me that prices go up but the portions go down there is no half gallons of ice cream it's 1.5 quarts or less, coffee doesnt come in 3lb cans it comes in 34.5 oz cans etc even though the cans look like their the same size :(

I am not an unhealthy eater and I dont want to change my lifestyle just because the whole world is on a healthy kick :D

Agreed Snow... I am sick of the heath food kick too. How healthy can it be if you cannot eat it in the first place? Moderation and balance is the key.

There is plenty of "unhealthy" ice-cream to eat. Pay attention to what you are buying next time. The other is for people who want a choice.

I agree with the proprtions. In the last year, Safeway reduced Safeway brand albcore (love that mercury) from a 6 oz can to a 5 oz can with the same price. The **** at Folger's reduced the coffee size from 34.5 oz to 27.8 oz and kept the same price.

If they want to reduce portions faster in order to save money all they have to do is switch to the metric system which will confound the majority of Americans (at least for a while) and they'll reap huge profits! How's that for a business model in ABSURD TIMES??

Ha Ha no doubt I will be. It seems to me the healthy food areas used to be small areas with few items, now it seems to me that they have increased to the point where the regluar unhealthy food is in the minority.

I think that what makes what you eat healthy or unhealthy is more of how it's prepared and the portions involved than the food itself. That being said considering that most of America lives an unhealthy lifestyle it is actually good to see trends of more healthy options in the stores.

The so-called "health foods" aren't all that healthy to start with. They're filled with tons of food chemicals to enhance flavor where things like fat would cover it.

Besides, the problem is with portion control. Eating an entire container of Healthy Choice ice cream isn't exactly good for you either.

The best health food out there is all natural and it doesn't have to taste like garbage.

Agreed.....I go out of my way to seek all natural products. Seems like they are going away lately in favor of the low fat healthy stuff which really isn't all that healthy anyway. All natural means more expensive too, for some that may be an issue. I like juice fresh squeezed not the sugar stuff from concentrate,or milk without the added crap. I tend to stay away from preservative ladden foods. More balance is whats needed, portion control and some exercise and you shouldn't have to worry about what you eat.

True Cathy . It may have seemed that I actually do hate health trends due to my opening statement but that is not the case, see above statement ^^^^ I dont mind stores having special sections that cater to the people that have special needs, it is more that it is getting harder to find food that isnt low fat or low sugar or less caffeine or less carbs or that simply hasnt been altered in some fashion to appeal to people who are overweight or at least think they are due to societys view of an ideal 110 lb 40 year old female:D

A good percentage of Diabetics for example wouldndt be Diabetic if they ate reasonable portions and exercised enough, it is their lifestyle that got them there in the first place.

Usally most low/non fat and sugar free ice cream and other foods are clearly marked by either Huge letters or brightly colored letters as being such, it is done this way to attract the people who either have health issues or are on a diet. This particular brand wasnt marked in such a way. Dont make me get my camera out :p

I prefer to eat full flavored foods myself and since the current trend seems to be shifting to less and less of them being offered I now have to like Rivrrat look to make sure I am getting the real deal. I simply eat reasonable portions and prepared in such a way as not to clog my arterys or add a zillion calories. I rarely eat ice cream or pastrys and almost never eat candy, and if I do I eat these items I eat them in small portions. I truly believe that people need to change how they eat. portions and how food is prepared eat baked chicken versus fried chicken for example if you want to be healthy and still enjoy full flavored foods.

There's plenty of the regular, original versions of stuff around, it's just that it now shares the shelf space with the reduced fat and sugar free versions. And that's a good thing, in my opinion.

Just pay attention to what you're grabbing as you can't just blindly grab a box of Wheat Thins anymore and except them to be the "original" version.

I'm not a revolutionary or anything, but the straw that broke the camel's back for me was shrinking the size of ice cream containers. I quit buying ice cream at the store because of it. 1.5 Quarts is the most useless amount of ice cream possible. A family of four used to be able to sit down with a half gallon and each of us could have a nice bowl of dessert. Now, either everyone feels a little short changed or you have to buy two containers, which is too much. Thankfully we have a great ice cream parlor here in town so we don't have to stop eating ice cream completely. Death to package shrinking **** @ssholes, viva la ice cream!

In protest of all this low fat, non sugar, less grease nonsense going on at the stores, I am going to have a double Black Angus burger with cheddar cheese and bacon lettuce, tomato, and topped with sweet Baby ray's raspberry and chipotle BBQ sauce prepared on my George Foreman grill ... less grease this way, French fries baked in the oven of course and a Barq's rootbeer float with REAL vanilla ice cream that I just bought to replace the other.

    :D:eek::p

I eat Brighams, and I have no complains on size. It's a dense, rich ice cream and we usually get about 8 servings per quart. If a gallon isn't doing it for you, then in my opinion you're either eating air (i.e. Hood or something comparable) or you're eating way too damn much ice cream.

You want to really get ripped off? Get the "double churned". Translation---more air in it and less actual ice cream.

Yes I looked at that also but noticed it said in BIG letters less fat/low fat or some such so I passed. No worries from now on I will examine ice cream very carefully to ensure that I get the full dose of everything that is bad for me, in fact I am going to make it my mission to find an ice cream that has double the fat and sugar if at all possible :p

She is trying to be helpful im sure :) The thing is very little food is harmful if eaten in the right amounts it's just that as americans we tend to eat both far more then we actually need and prepared the wrong ways.

We are always in a hurry and want items that are ready quickly if not allready cooked and that last forever so we eat lots of fast food and prepared foods that contain huge amounts of sodium and other stay fresh longer ingredients.

If we ate these foods in smaller portions and not every day but every once in a while we would not be looking to be on all these diets and medications to control our health.

It is a shame because as time goes on fewer and fewer people have any real cooking skills, if it didnt come in a box or can and didnt have microwaveable instructions some would come close to starving :D

I know how to hunt and fish, trap and grow a garden, bake my own bread, make jams and can up anything, smoke fish etc.

Do I do all these things on a daily basis? no but I have done so and when I retire look forward to having the time to do more of this type of thing.
