Well my 2 channel set up is in our main livingroom we have never had a TV or any equipment in that room till I put together the system I have now. well the wife wants me to put in a TV with my system, wall mounted and get the VTI stand I have been wanting. I like the fact of having just a listening area for music but on the other hand I will be able to play some of my music DVD's and BluRay's as well as DVD A's on my SDA's

What are your thoughts on putting a TV in your 2 channel rig? I will have to give in as she has let me get away with doing alot last year.

I have a TV in mine, but out of necessity. My college apartment is not very big. I have my TV/Xbox running through my NAD integrated amp. Not too bad, it's kinda nice having your TV together with your rig so you can watch and listen all in one place. The only issue is my TV is directly between my speakers, which hinders imaging, but yours won't be so bad since it is wall mounted.

Good luck! Always good to keep the wife happy, especially if they can tolerate our obsession ;)

It can be good and bad. I have a Pioneer Elite plasma in my 2 channel living room setup. The good is I can watch blu ray movies, And music DVD's but I hate knowing if company comes over and wants to watch tv in the living room and I'm not there the girlfriend would have to mess with and turn on my gear. For some reason whenever people come over and see my big sda's they think loud and always want to hear how loud they can go.

Works well for me. It's kinda cool to watch tv or DVD's with audio going through my Tyler Acoustic Linbrooks. Sounds great.

Maybe it's time to upgrade your HT instead. ;)

Before I got into HT my 2 channel was hooked-up to my living room CRT TV (which wasn't bad since the kids had their own living room (which is now being enlarged to become the dedicated HT room)). I am working hard to have a system hooked-up to each TV/display in the house, I can no longer imagine audio set-up without visual set-up and vice versa. I feel it is a big waiste of a good movie to simply be watched with only the built in TV audio.

I beg to differ. You can totally isolate video from your 2 channel rig via toslink if you have a DAC. This is what I do. My video components have NO electrical connection to the rest of my 2-channel components. This is one of the big benefits of Toslink.

What about the large object in between your speakers?

It can be a non issue if it's set back a few feet or so.

Main two channel rig used for a good movie or concert, you betcha so long as it isn't causing any problem between the speakers. A nice set in plasma, LCD or projector is what I'm talking about.

I have a tv in my 2 channel set-up. The name of the game is audio quality. I use an old crt tv, mono speaker. Now the cable goes through the vcr and onto the receiver. I use a 1984 Technics SA-510 and have the vcr, dvd audio cables hooked up. The video cables go directly to the tv. So it's great to listen to a lp while watching football or the radio commentary. It also improves the sound quality and enjoyment of watching a video tape. Get great sound out of a pair of Monitor 5a's. Consider the video totally seperate from the audio.

My speakers front baffles are placed about 4" in front of my HDTV screen, and theres a good 3-4ft space between ea speaker and the TV. Toslink keeps all video components isolated from my 2-channel audio.

I don't see the issue as long as it doesn't get in the way, as others have said. I've been toying with the idea. My speakers are 4 ft from the wall, so a flat screen back there would not bother. As per the sound? Most 2 ch preamps have several inputs, right? So I don't see the problem. My listening room is also my office when I work from home, so I could even connect my laptop to the big screen.

I have found it to be a non-issue with SDA`s. If they are properly placed the tv should not be a deterrent to good sound.

For selfish reasons you might want to omit the tv. I have a large family and they all want to watch something different. I want music, two channel SDA style!

and here I thought you were getting serious about 2-ch audio............ stop wasting your cash on necessacities and get a nice HT room built for video. besides with hi-fi music rig sure dont need to "watch" something.....gadzuk man. You need to get that new TT and quick that should get you squared away or perhaps your practicing your Howdy Duty routine.

My 2 channel system sharing floor space with my HT system is no problem what so ever. I guess a lot of integration issues are room related. My room dimensions just happens to be a perfect fit for both.

My mains are first & foremost set up for optimal 2 channel listening. They're 4.5' from the back wall & just a tad under 3' from the side walls. Now that gives me plenty of room for my 50" TV between the mains. But the TV & mains are still separated by 2.5' & the mains are off set to the right & left. A perfect listening experience for both venues. What's the problem????

Oh, & my dual Velo's are directly behind the mains flanking the TV stand. Again a perfect fit for seemless bass integration for both venue's. What's the problem????

If I had a dedicated 2-channel room, I'd go that route minus any video. I don't have that luxury.

Truthfully I don't care much for HT sound systems, even with video. The two channel rig just sounds so much better and makes the movie so much more enjoyable... ;)

With you at the moment. I like the warmth, smoothness, accuracy, and the money shot comes when the soundtrack is really doing it's thing. I don't have the money or the ambition to try to duplicate that sound in an HT setup. I can't decide if the monster impact of an HT i could afford would offset the "niceness" of the 2-channel.

I don't have dialogue issues, either, so that's nice.

well you can chew on gummy bears or you can chew on razor blades, either way your chewing........no way I would ever put a TV in the Rabbit Hole........in fact, there is nothing not related to music in there....even get my light bulbs specially tubed and damped.......

my movies are playing with speakers designed for HT apps and I might add that POLK fully assaulted HT sound with those babies, sorry but I did the SDA...RTi...dual rig thing no doubt these I have now blow those away for HT.........aahhhhhhh, I am spoiled rotten.....but loving it. come to think of it there is nothing music related in the Reel Time Theater......its all about popcorn and oh yea......gummy bears bon bons....juju beads and snow cones get a bit sticky though. yea I can dig a concert video in there Chuck.....its a different thing than Hi-Fi SQ but then you knew that.

When you don't have a choice then, well, you don't have a choice. I suppose that given the space and the money I would love to have a dedicated HT.

But I've learned over the past couple of years that what really makes me happy is listening to music, so what I have done is gear my entire system towards it. I removed my 5.1 LSi system and just kept the front 15's. For electronics, nothing extra is in the signal path when I'm listening to music. So aside from having a piece of furniture and a plasma TV between my speakers there is nothing degrading my 2-channel system.

When I want to play XBox 360 with my son, I turn on the AVR and TV, flip the Bypass switch on my preamp, and voila. Yes it's only 2.0, but it sounds fantastic. Dialog is crystal clear (honestly it's even better than when I had my 5.1 system in the same room for whatever reason), and there's plenty of impact. I don't miss not having "surround sound" at all.

Yes it can be a compromise having both systems in one, but only if you want the best of both world. I don't. I'm very happy with 2.0 "HT", and having a system geared towards 2-channel more than makes up for it to me.
