Ok so I'm confused and have no idea what to do with this. I got an Iphone about 2 days ago and went to go set it up. I am new to AT&T so I had to start fresh. I charged it and everything and went to go have it sync to my computer with Itunes. Well my Itunes does not show the Iphone as being connected, however when I plug it in my USB it does make the noise that it normally makes that something is plugged in and then gives me a prompt for the window's wizard that my computer detected new hardware and I have to install it. Well I tried that and it says it failed to be installed and then asks for a disc which it doesn't have.
Regardless of what I do with the prompt it will not show the iphone in my Itunes. I tired out my gf's labtop with Vista (I'm using XP) and with her's it worked just fine.
I have tried all the different USB ports, deleted and reinstalled Itunes, and did all the updates I could for XP and turned off all my antivirus, ect. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong???
My old nano Ipod contects just fine, just the new iphone will not.

Step 1. Turn off your iPhone.
Step 2. Hold Power and Home button, the iPhone should now be boot.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but HOLD the home button.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you in restore mode.
Try that. This is while its plugged in of course with iTunes installed and open.

Try a different cable, or run the update on your phone.
If all else fails, run the full recovery/restore on your iphone (takes 30minutes).
that fixed mine the first time around.Main Surround -
