I came across this deal on an open box Pio Blu Ray -05FD for $399. Is it worth it? Looks like it is in great condition and the serial number does not match the ones on Pioneer's website to have to send in to get "fixed".

Thanks in advance for you thoughts.

The 05 may be an older model Elite...did you look it up on Pioneer's website as OLDER MODELS? If so it was probably an 800 dollar or more unit when it sold.

    Otherwise xcapri79 is right..

Thanks for the heads up. I wondered why they were in the aisle looking out of place. I thought maybe they did not know what they had - apparently they know exactly what they have. Guess I will keep saving my pennies for the Oppo!

dont mean to get your hopes up, but if it was 1 with a problem i wouldn't think anything of it, 2, not so much, but 5, all having problems with freezing is a big issue. unless our whole store got an issue with them, i think they have some bugs

I really like my TGR-3. I like the sound much better than my H/K (which I also like). However, as I am looking for a Blu Ray player it will need to have 7.1 audio outputs - not a big deal but most of the great buys I have seen have not had it. And, I am trying to find the best way to connect headphones without a headphone jack.

Would I recommend it -- OH YEAH!

There is an issue with the players but its normally not freezing up, its an issue where they just won't play the disc and it affects certain serial numbers which you can check here
    http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Support/HomeEntertainment/Blu-rayDisc+DVD/Important%3A+Notice+of+Free+Update+for+Pioneer+BDP-51FD+%26+BDP-05FD+Blu-ray+Disc+Players
I has been noted before that with freezing that some people had problems when it was switching between layers on DVD's and blue rays, however with the latest firmware that came out I didn't hear about anyone really having any big issues with it. Some said it was still taking awhile to switch to the next layer but wasn't nearly as bad. I've never heard of the unit freezing completely though and not working, thats new to me.
The going price on the used verison of the 05 is around 325-350.00. I would say 399 isn't bad for it being new. The only thing too is this one does not have BD live but for me that wasn't a big issue as I don't care for it. The 51's which are the none elite version of this player are also very good and you can find those for around 200.00 and less used. I like the picture quality that the pio puts out, but the oppo is also very good from what I saw breifly of it. I didn't get time to put the oppo in my setup but saw it at a friends house and also loved the picture.

Anybody had any experience with the BD-320. I want one for dvd and br disks with the analog outputs. For around 220.00, it seems like a decent player. Loading time is not an issue with me.

There are abt 100 units in North America effected. As stated previouly, defective units with range of serial number listed on Pio site. I have the 51fds for a while now and there is no issues.

It does not justify enough to pay xtra hundred $$$ for the Elite logo and the gold-plated connections to match with my SC05. Spec- wise, they are identical.

One hell of the CDP for the price.

I snagged my 05 Elite brand new from BB for right at $200. That's a REAL nice player but not for $400. The most recent firmware updates have resolved most of the problems people complain about on these players though so if you find one for a better price don't shy away from purchasing it.

One of these just popped up in my local paper for $250. Ad claims brand new in box, never used.

I don't want it, but let me know if any of you folks do.
