Do speakers need to be mounted on studs?

Using the OWM3 for my rear surrounds. Do they have to be mounted on screws on studs or can be mounted on screws in the drywall too?

Just wondering if the vibration will cause the drywall hookup to fail after a while.

Thanks!

The OWM3 is light enough to be used with a high quality drywall anchor but stud mounting is suggested. The multiple mounting options for the OWM3/5 allow you to place them just about anywhere.

Studs are always preferable. But the OWN3 and any typical wall-mounted speaker can be mounted using good quality, medium duty, self-drilling, plastic drywall anchors.

I really like the self drilling anchors and would suggest buying them rated for a higher weight than the actual loudspeaker, thus a larger screw.

Just for clartification...what I mean by high quality anchor is don't use the plastic, tap with a hammer, inserts at all. They are not sufficient for mounting that loudspeaker.

No, that's in another area of a typical Home Depot. I'd look in screw, chain, gloves, mailboxes area.

While fastening to a stud is the most secure way of mounting the speaker using the right drywall anchor will allow you more placement options. Since this is a relatively small and light speaker, I would have no problem mounting these using the drywall anchor shown in the video.
