2000 Jetta-need stereo upgrade advice.

Ok, here goes. I have a 2000 Jetta and have decided to upgrade the stereo system. I have some db6501 speakers for the front, which I was planning to install myself. After reading some other posts, this seems to me to be a little bit daunting. I think I can do it, but am not sure.
I am wondering about the practicality of doing a complete upgrade (head unit, amp(s?), subs, speakers) in phases/steps. Once I get going, is it better to do it all at once, or is there a logical order to this, and can I do it in phases or steps?
Thanks - Dave

How in detail do you want the steps? Wire by wire or just a general description of what needs to be done?HT setup

You want to do it in phases so that you dont compromise on the quality of each link that you're adding or upgrading.

Go ahead and put the front speakers in, it won't be that hard, just take your time and don't rush anything. After that, figure out rear speakers and sub placement. Also, you should definitely pick up an amp and power everything to it's potential.Truck system so far...

Thanks everyone. I've got some (2) db6501's for the front and now a PA 500.4. Next I'll be getting some kind of HU (not sure what) and I'll install all at the same time. That way I know the speakers will never be underpowered/damaged, and I can add a sub later with that amp and the 6501's, and the stock rear speakers. After that I plan to get a dedicated sub amp and new rear speakers at the same time, and I think that will do it.

Get a hu with tons of tuning options. Spend bit of $$ here. You'll be richly rewarded. Dont add rears. Add the money saved from rears towards the hu and look at units like the top end alpine, pio 800/880 or the eclipse.

Thanks Arun - that was my next question - HU recommendations. I was thinking of the Alpine CDA 9887, as I primarily listen to MP3/CDs and that seems to be a good HU. I'll have to look at the others as well.
