Time for a sub upgrade?!

I currently have a Pardigm PW-2200. All the chatter on this board about SVS has given me the upgrade bug. My question is this: Is the SVS PB 12 Plus a big enough upgrade over the Paradigm to justify the expense. My mouth waters every time I see the SVS on their website. If anyone has experience with these subs, please advise.

That sub is probably..... 25% of the sub that the OP currently has. (That may be a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea.)

The Paradigm is great on movies, but lacking a little punch on music. Plus, The SVS looks awesome and has been bragged about as the best sub for the price out there.

Where do you have it placed? I can't imagine that thing lacking punch in pretty much any scenario.

Do you mean it's muddy or slow?

Michael, I am in the northwestern part of Illinois about an hour west of Rockford. Where are you? I would love to hear your sub.

Concealer, I have it placed in the front corner. It is a bit slow on music.

How far from the walls? I have yet to have any success placing a sub in a corner from a music aspect. Great for HT, terrible for music. At least in my experiences.

    1) Wait for everyone to leave the house (so you don't get laughed at).
    2) Put the sub in your listening position (on a board if neccesary (downfiring sub on a cushy couch for example))
    3) Put on some bass heavy music
    4) crawl around on the floor around your room (along the walls) until the bass sounds good to you.
    5) switch positions with the sub (it sits on the floor, you sit on the couch)
    6) let the family back in
    7) explain to the wife that you know the sub looks stupid there, but it sounds great....

A better sub with the same bad placement in your room will not give you the results you were looking for.

    Good luck,

    Michael

BTW - I am in the Peoria area (you are still welcome, but it will be a longer trip). We do have quite a few members in the Rockford area though - maybe one of them can let you get your SVS listen on....

Concealer, the sub is located 1 foot from the side wall and one foot from the rear wall.

Michael, LOL my wife and kids have already been kicked out so I could have complete quiet while running audyssey. The sub is located in about the 3rd best position in the room m (the 1st wife acceptance position).

I would suspect that the placement may be an issue in your case, then. But if the wife says that's where it goes, that's where it goes. :p
