TBS is running all 3 LOTR flicks this weekend, starting on Friday I believe.
If your lucky enough to have TBS-HD, set your DVR's...I am looking fwd. to these. On a side note, Amazon has the Blue Rays available for pre-order for April release:

Same here, I'll wait for the EE's on Blu. Rumor is 2011 to coincide with the release of the Hobbit.

When you say extended, do you mean the actual movies, or just adding a bunch of other options / tracks such as commentary, theater trailers, etc?

Same thing I have heard. As I have these in SD DVD I am awaiting the EE's on Blu.

Thanks for the heads-up on TBS. I think I have caught them before, but they are always worth the watching. :)

The Extended Editions for all three LOTR movies have more movie footage, not just options, commentaries.

Peter Jackson has gone on record as saying the Theatrical Releases are his official version and the Extended Editions are in tribute to the fans.

Personally, I prefer the EEs as they fill in some much needed areas of his storyline.

As for the HD broadcast - I'll have to see for myself - lots of so called HD broadcasts turn out to be anything but because of compression, sub-channels stealing bandwidth, etc with the result being poor picture quality and lots of macroblocking.

TBS-HD looks mighty good on Comcast here in Jackson. NGC and USA-HD have had some serious problems lately.

I was talking about the longer movie. Then extended movies are longer and do fill in a lot of the story line. They are so much better.

Although I have the DVD of all three, I'm definitely setting the DVR for this event even though I'm going to have to fast foward through the commercials. I wish one of the non-commercial stations would air it in HD so there are no commercials.

I have the theatrical and extended editions on DVD - not in a big hurry to purchase them all again. (although when the extended editions come out - I am sure I will whine about the price, how many copies I already own and then purchase them again anyway....)

Great movie(s) - BUT - I simply don't have the heart to sit through it again, theatrical or EE.

I think I will let this one pass me by.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

FYI, it's on TNT in my area, not TBS.

The difference between the theatricals and the EE's? About 45 minutes of added footage per film.
    If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.
