It looks like I burnt/fried/did something bad, to the tweeters in both of my Monitor30's. They don't look burnt however they have a smell like burn plastic and I am getting no sound from them whatsoever. I was able to remove the tweeter component very easily but I am wondering if replacement tweeters are availible. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Alot!

Musically,
Ryan

Contact Polk, they are very "understanding" with "accidents" and should be able to hook you up. Give them a call at 1-800-377-POLK (7655) 9AM-5:30PM EST Mon-Fri. Welcome to Club Polk.

Jeff is right...but can you also tell us HOW you did that..? What are you powering those with and how loud did you go, etc.?

I play keyboard/synth, and I was running my speakers off of an old Onkyo505. I was moving my rig around and I accidentially connected the 1/4inch jack into the "footswitch out" instead of the "headphone" out and when I hit a key, all I heard was a high pitched sound that I couldn't even begin to describe.

I started to smell burnt plastic and then I had no sound coming from the tweeter. I removed the tweeter component and it looks fine, however there is no sound at all.

I am thinking that whatever signal was sent to the amp and subsequently through the speakers caused them to die, I do not know how, but I know that I am sitting here with two speakers with no sound coming from the tweeters

HT speakers are not designed to be used with electric instruments. I know sometimes it is hard to avoid......but I would still avoid it. As you can see...accidents can happen when you least expect it.

Best of luck to you. From what I hear, Polk has very good service.

Yea I know. I am looking to get some good studio monitors for my rig soon so that would solve that problem, however I would still want to use the monitor30's as my rears (they used to be) so I still want to get the tweeters replaced.

If you're still under warranty you might be able to get a set of new tweeters from Polk....sounds like you gave your AVR a feedback surge!

Do you think that if I am not under warranty that I will be able to purchase replacement tweeters? I mean I bought them from CCity prior to liquidation and I do not have any proof of purchase. I never registered them and do not have any paper work.

    Thanks again for the help!

OK, I just got a price quote for the tweeters but I have another question. I want to test the speakers to make sure that it really is the tweeter component that is defective, do you think that I can put the tweeter from my Monitor50's or CS1 into that speaker to test it?

    Thanks A lot,
