HI friends!
I have a doubt about my new speakers. My room is 30m2, rectangular, and usually plays sinfonical heavy or rock, sometimes BSO´s.
I usually use a superb Quad 520f with upgrade to 125w per channel.

Please, some opinions!:confused::confused::confused:

Thanks!

I wish I could afford the RTIA9 ,if you have the money,go with the RTIA9 over the RTiA7
They have better more detail mids and the extra woofer gives you a deeper bass.A 125 watts will push them nicely. You want be disappointed with the PolkAudio RTIA9.

Wow the are pricey, but a bit cheaper here in the US. I checked out frys pricing on those, they had the cherry A9s on sale for $399 each... dunno if they will last long though... that's an awesome deal on these speakers.

Let's just say they sound is 'different'...the 7s have more bass...but are brighter on top and IMO the 70s have better midrange? For HT the A7s have the nod...for music....I'm not so sure!

For me you have to get up the the A9s to have significant improvements in Music and if you're going to go there...you may as well just get some LSI9s and a good musical sub....if music is important to you.

If I'm not mistaken that euro price includes the very stiff vat tax..If you subtract that they are not much more than in the States.. about $800 a piece.
The prices here are coming down now as they get older. I see them for $699 sometimes.. Which is what I paid for mine. (if they ever get here,)
Same thing for gas...you pay obscene prices even over the US but its all taxes.

For music, snag a pair of LSi towers. They'll do much better than either the A7 or A9 for music, and can be had for about the price of the A9's if you do some hunting.

Let me try a shovel full against this A9 tide. Given your room size (30m2), I believe the
A7s would be just fine. My own listening area is similar in size and the 7s do a good job for either two channel music or 5.2 HT.

Note that I have a Pure Audio feature on my AVR that allows for two channel listening. With this my 7s delivers very balanced sound with a clean bass, clear highs and strong mids. Everyone's ears are different and I don't have the audiophile credentials of many on this board ... but I sure like my Polk A7s and bet you would too.

when the A7 does a good job the A9 will be doing excellent job :D.

when it come to speaker i believe you should buy the best u can,and obviously the A9's are better than the A7s, it's not very easy to change ur setup later on, an exapmle is for the TV size, most of the people wish they went with a larger screen after buying it.

the "obiously" part came from alot of comparisons held in this forum and in other forums as well, the dynamic range of the A9s is better than the A7, this is due to many reasons, the components and the cabine design are a factor there, i auditioned both at the time and i've opted for the A9s, u can search this forum for this subject as this is a very common thread topic.

    Boys boys....

Just how did we resurrect this thread? The original poster started this thread in Dec 2009??

But since we're talking about Euros and Rti-A9s....with Greece tanking the Euro and the Euro now down from its high of 1.60 U.S to 1.31 U.S.

All you East Atlantic side boys and girls need to do is just wait for the complete default and you'll have your U.S. price!

I don't mind that its been resurrected. I'm also debating between these speakers. I don't care so much about the better lower end of the A9, but I do wonder if the mids are better in the A9 due to them being sealed off from the woofers?

The other difference I can see from the spec is that the A7 mid speaker is getting 125Hz-2.7kHz while the A9 mids are getting 120Hz-1.8kHz. How does this affect the sound?

go to either of these links for "a long winded answer," but likely not THE answer to your question.

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=93963&highlight=rtia7

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=100364

I did a little more quick testing earlier tonight in the form of listening & bi-amping* the mid/tweeter of one channel. Unlike last week I didn't have time to use the other channel for comparison. Connected the wire the same way; listened to the same Steely Dan track
    * Polk XO out of the signal path

My inconclusive belief for the edginess & brightness is two-fold:
    1. XO caps (edginess)
    2. pad the tweeter (brightness); turning it down 9dB relative to the mid seemed to balance the drivers.

I think the A9 mids being in a sealed, separate chamber has a more positive affect on their sound quality than the slightly different XO frequencies. The A7 mids & subs SHARE the same chamber. And the A7 mids do NOT have 125hz HP filtering*; just LP filtering* on the subs. Don't know if that's the case w/the A9s.
    * never mind what you see on the Polk site

I hope next time to have time to have the other (stocker) to compare my tests against plus use my RTA for measurments.

    Meanwhile, check the other threads.

Hope this helps; stay tuned cheers tony
