There is a pair of SDA 2.3 in Omaha Craigslist for $700. I spoke with the owner and he seems to be very nice person. He is not the original owner of the speakers but has have them since 1995. He has the interconnect cable but not using it.

Is this a fair price for a pair of mint 2.3s (non-TL)?

Yes, if they're in great condition but I would hold off for the TL's

Don't get me wrong - I'd LOVE to have a pair of TLs, but I haven't been able to find any and I've been avidly searching for something within about a 5 hour radius of Minneapolis for as long as I can remember!

As of now, I'm just looking for a major upgrade to the SDA 2As in my system (driven by a Parasound HCA-2200II)... do you think these 2.3s would do the trick?

I have both 2.3's and 2A's. I love my 2A's for the room they are in but the 2.3's are just a much bigger and better sound IF you have the room and means to power them. I guess, either way yes, it should do the trick.
I could be wrong and others have much more experience than I do but thats just my opinion.

agree 100% I had the 2.3 in a smaller room of the house and they did not sound right! When i put them in a 24' room it opened them up big time!

Well, my room is about 12' by 24'. The speakers would have to go on the long wall, so it would be about 9' from the fronts of the speaker grills to my ears with the speakers at most 9' apart.

Is this big enough to let the 2.3s breathe or do I need something bigger?

As for power, I'm fine on that (Parasound HCA-2200II, rated at 385 wpc @ 4 ohms).

I'm really, REALLY on the fence on this one because I don't know if I'm just going to get them and then think, "Damn, I really want the TLs and my room is too small for these anyway!"

    Thoughts?

I have a set of 2.3 and a set of 2.3tl's in about the same room sizes and they both sound great. the tl's sound better, but for $700 you cant go wrong on those and if you can talk him down lower even better. Upgrading the tweeters will do wonders and the x-overs as well.

I agree with zarradoss, I think you will be VERY happy with those 2.3's and upgrading the tweets and x-overs will only make them better.
Never heard the TL version of those so I can't comment on that.

Good luck and let us know

Exactly what I'm worrying about - getting those 2.3s and regretting it because I want the TLs later on.

Tough situation because I haven't heard either of the two so I don't know what to expect as differences between the TL and non-TL, so I'm basically relying on advice from fellow forum members who have heard both versions.

If the TL versions are really THAT much better, I'd probably opt to wait for a pair of those, but we'll see...

I got the 2.3 first then a pair of 2.3tl came available and I got them and upgraded the tweets then the tweets on the reg 2.3's. I like the way both of them sound. Some things sound better on the tl's and not the 2.3's and some times its the other way around.
These 2.3 would be a big upgrade compared to your 2a's but if I were you I would wait for a pair of tl's. You might have to go a bit further to really score.

I say get the 2.3's upgrade and be happy. I have had the luxury of hearing Zardoss (Kevin's) speakers and IMO they both kick ****. You Could be waiting a long time for the tl's.

I was going to say why not get these and if a pair of tl's does come up get those too. worse case is you sell the ones you like the least or have two pairs of kick **** speakers.

Now here is an interesting thought...

There is a guy up here in Minneapolis that is willing to sell me his SRS 3.1TLs for the same price as these 2.3s.

What does everyone think about that? How would the 3.1TLs compare to the 2.3 (non-TLs) in a medium-sized room? Has the TL tweeters, but a smaller speaker overall...

    Damn all of these options!!!!

(And thanks SO MUCH for all of your thoughts ;))

I say you suck. LOL, I have not had my ears on the 3.1tl's but that would be my pick.

go with the 3.1's I hear good things but have not heard them myself and they are easier and cheaper to upgrade tweeters.

In a medium size room I'd go with the 3.1tl's. Very nice sounding speakers and can be upgraded at a cheaper price. I think $700 is a bit high. I had a pair a few months back and I hate I got rid of them. In my medium sized room I like the 3.1tl's then the 1c's close behind.
