Usher Compass X-929 Speakers

Looking for opinions/information of Usher Compass x-929 speakers. While I enjoy listening to my SDA SRS speakers in 2 channel system, I've been toying with idea of buying a set of speakers which is a little more current - and use in addition to my SRS's. I've read quite a few good reviews of Usher speakers - but nothing on the Compass x-929 model. A pair has come up for sale near me - I plan to listen to them tomorrow afternoon. I will be using a Forte Model 3 Amp, Forte Model 2 Preamp, and Cambridge Audio 640 CD Player with the Ushers. Any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.

I don't know how much help I can be but I have heard many Usher models. However, I have not heard these nor do I think many have as these were not around for very long. I am familiar with these drivers and can tell you they are very fast, open, and clear. I do think that these speakers (as most Ushers) will require a good 3 feet + behind in order to sound good though....so that may be an issue.
If it is the pair on the Gon I think you can strike a very good deal (<1K) as they are not well known and likely not in great demand nor are they perfect cosmetically. You would be able to get a pair of 6311's for the same price which is a series above as well (one less driver though)...pending on size of room, type of music, and sonic preferences of course. However, proximity is a big advantage.
I have to admit I am curious as to how these sound as I do tend to like MTM configurations.
Sorry, not much help...but good luck!

Thanks for the thoughts Mike. The speakers I'm referring to are the ones listed on Audiogon. I wasn't aware these may need 3 feet behind speakers to sound right. This would be an issue for me as my room is wide (over 30 feet) but only about about 15 feet deep. You also raise a question which I have: buy this particular model versus waiting for a pair of the 6311 or 6381 speakers to be listed. I'll know more after looking/listening to the x-929's today.

I listened to these Ushers the other day. I was impressed with their performance - I would say they sounded similar to your experiences (noted above) with other Usher speakers. I didn't make offer for them due to the cosmetic damage which one of the speakers had, plus I'd like to listen to a few different speakers prior to buying anything. I currently have my Polk SDA SRS, SDA 2B, and Klipsch Cornwall speakers - all of which are sort of "vintage". I'd like to buy a newer floorstanding speaker which would be a nice addition to what I already have.
