It's gotten as bad as CL :p

Here is a listing for a receiver that looks like it survived two world wars and a college party house. He claims that it is per his description

"There is 4 knobs off which in no way affect the performance of this great and powerful receiver. Cosmetically there is some minor nicks on the wood, as shown in photos, but is clean and looks very good"

http://cgi.ebay.com/PIONEER-SX-1980-530-WATT-STEREO-RECEIVER_W0QQitemZ120506854366QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Electronics_R2?hash=item1c0ec4abde

I wonder what it would look like if he felt it was dirty and had major dings?

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

The ironic thing is that if he had spent an hour or two cleaning, sanding, oiling the wood, polishing the face and listing a detailed description he could have very well doubled that amount, their very collectible and I have seen this model sell for as high as $3200.00 with the original box and paperwork.

I have one of these in the repair shop that has been promised to be fixed by mid Feb that is in as mint condition as any I have ever seen, that I fully expect to break the above record if and when I ever sell it. Here are a few pics.

None taken George. From everything I have read the smaller less powerful models sound much better then the monster Pioneers do, which I believe to probally be true, from my limited experience it has held true. I have a Marantz-2235 which I love dearly an awesome sounding little unit and have owned a few of the more powerful models and they simply didnt sound as good, they left and the 2235 has stayed.

I think it has more to do with bragging rights than anything else. My intentions as soon as I get this out of the shop is to give a listen and if it doesnt sound better then everything else I own then off to the Auction house it goes. I have no desire to keep something that I have no intentions of using no matter how rare or collectible. The only reason I got this thing originally was I knew I could make a dollar on it and use the funds elsewhere.

Each to their own. It doesn't do anything for me.
There's a lot of nice gear to be had for a lot less.

Looks like my Dad's old receiver. Used to drive 4 AR 2ax. The freakin windows would shake (when he wasn't home of course). I almost cried when he said he sold it for $20.

Hell I would have too. Here are a few more pics from the same shop of different older gear throughout, I had a Sansui G-9700 in for repair then it's in the first pic.

He has quite a bit of vintage gear in his shop hidden away in other rooms literally boxes of NOS tubes.... Telefunken 12AX7's Genalex KT88's etc I have been back there and looked at literally hundreds of old tube amps receivers etc but he wont let me take any pictures in those rooms :D

Sorry about the bad quality of pics.

I'd like to visit that shop! I see some vintage Gallien-Kruger, Gibson, Fender and I think a few Musicman amps.

Yea hard to imagine huh? I should part mine out rather than fix it which is most likely what the new owner is going to do, but I dont have the heart to do that even though I could most likely make a lot more that way and it certainly would be easier to ship in pieces the damn thing weighs 78 lbs unpacked.
