Center channel speaker

I am putting new system in MBR with ONKYO TXSR607 & do not have space in the tiled area above the TV for a center channel speaker. Would a rectangular wall speaker function OK as a center channel? Polk has some cool rectangulars for wall. Can they serve as center if they are pointed downwards from an 8' ceiling? Does it matter that much?
