In the market for a new receiver 500 or less

I recently acquired a pair of rti8's to go along with a cs 10 center and r300 surrounds. My old receiver quit on mr and I was hoping to find a new one with a budget of $500 although less would be better. I would like to be able to biamp the rti8 to provide them with enough power. I'm new to the receiver market and was hoping I could get some suggestions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd think about a refurb hk 354 off the ebay store...<$400. They're a great value. Put the extra $100+ towards a sub if you don't have one yet.

sorry but I cant seem to find any except the yamaha for anywhere close to under 500 dollars. Any other suggestions?
Also, any other thoughts on the yamaha v665?

Frys website has a nice deal on the harman 3550HD for ~$649 plus tax. It is quite a nice receiver for a little bit more than your budget

I've got the Yammy v-665 that I use as a pre-pro with no complaints. The amplifier section falls short, although It was powering an LSI surround system. If you don't drive it too hard it should be fine until you're ready for a separate amp.

check out the new Marantz SR5004. I auditioned last week and was impressed with the clean sound. Ive had HK receivers for many years and now running HK AVR 520 but thinking about upgrading to a receiver with HDMI. For me the short list will be HK and Marantz fwiw. The deal below will keep you under your $500 budget.

cnh commented that 80-90 wpc will not be enough to drive SDA 1Cs in a 5.1 surround. My HK has enough power to drive my 2.1 / 3.1 setup but is defininatley not up to the task for 5.1 as cnh stated.HT in Progress

where would i find the sc-25 for 699? -
For $500 I would go out and buy a nice used receiver. Do not be afraid to do this. I have 2 receivers that when new sold for over $1200.....I got them both for under $500. Sure they are 3-4 years old and might not have a lot of current connections but there are ways around those shortcomings. What you will gain is a much better amp section, better DAC's and just a better build quality.
You can get a used Denon 3806 for about $450 or a 3805 for under $300 right now.....they will mop the floor with any mentioned so far....Onkyo TX-NR809

no luck with 699 for the sc25.

That MCCACC room correction is a tweakers wet dream!! awesome! -
There's a Denon 5700 available on Audiogon. I have had one of these for about 5 years now and it is a fantastic reciever and I can highly recommend it. They are asking $550.00. It's a 5.1 with preouts and a great amp section at 140wpc. No hdmi if that matters.
No affiliation..

If you are interested, I have a Black Denon AVR3806 Receiver that has never been used. I was going to buy a house and it never worked out. I have finally decided to sell the receiver and along with my Polk RTI10 Cherry Standing Speakers. I have already sold my FXI3's and CSI5. I am in Charlotte, NC 28269. I can be reached at dlaw11@carolina.rr.com.

dude seriously, if your selling stuff it needs to go into the FS section, I think over half of your meaningless post have been you trying to either sell your Denon or RTI and its getting annoying. -
I have the Yamaha Receiver and I like it. I had an Onkyo before and I love my Yamaha tons more. The only receiver that I would buy used is Carver!

The older 3800s are very good but they won't mop the floor with the Onkyo 805 mentioned above...that's a 51lb AVR with Burr Browns and a real 130 Watts/channel at 5.1 ratings? But you are right about the lower models mentioned.

I agree....forgot that unit was mentioned. The 805 is a beast. My buddy had one. It sounded very nice but he had a lot of synch issues with the HDMI connections and you could fry an egg on the thing it got so hot. Excellent receiver though for the price.......I'd still take the Denon 3806 because I prefer the sound quality a bit more and trust their reliability over Onkyo.....but it's REALLY close.
The thing that I really appreciated about that 805 was how much better it was than the 804. Rarely do you see a electronic manufacture upgrade the same 'model' that much. I think the 805 single handedly brought Onkyo back into the receiver battle with Denon, Yamaha, HK etc. Onkyo's used to sound very shrill and their build quality was very poor in the early 2000's. I think the 805 put them back on the map so to speak......Onkyo TX-NR809
