Hey guys,

Wasn't sure where to post this, but anyways, I'm looking a buying a center channel off ebay and the seller is having it shipped with UPS. UPS is also packaging the speaker... Should I be worried about this?

Let me know guys, I don't have much experience buying online and shipping.

Thanks and Merry Christmas.

If they pack it, you can rest assured that it'll be covered by their insurance if damaged.

If you pack it, and it doesn't meet the UPS standards and gets damaged they won't cover it even if you bought insurance.

If they packed it and it is insured you should have no worries even if it gets damaged.

I have used nothing but UPS to ship electronics over the last 15 years or so. I have never suffered a loss, or damaged piece of equipment. The two pieces that I received damaged, were handled by FedEx.

I've used UPS for 10+ years, never once had a problem shipping or receiving. Wonder where Snow got that info from?

Lucky you George I have never received a single item that UPS hadnt managed to destroy. Maybe I just had bad luck?

Well so far I'm liking what I hear. I've won the bid, now just need to wait to hear from the seller. Hopefully things go good. First time experience using ebay to be honest:o I want this first experience to be a good one:)

Hey Mikeyb, as far as shipping to Canada, not worried about it, having it shipped to an american address, then bringing it over myself or having a friend bring it over for me.

I believe if your experience was the rule rather than the exception, UPS would have been out of business a very long time ago.

I bought a pair of LS90's on Ebay. They were packed by and shipped via UPS. Other than a couple of grill-surround pins that snapped off, they were in great shape when they arrived. I felt very lucky.

I cannot comment on UPS packing. I only have experience with UPS shipping and handling.

I would expect they don't know how to pack worth ****.

Given the size of the LS90's and the fact that the owner did not have original packing, I was lucky they weren't hammered. UPS store did an acceptable job. Not as good as I would have done, but they made it.

Well this is unfortunate. I got the speaker today... and before even opening the box, I could hear something loose inside. Open the box, pull out the center... there is definitely something wrong here. Grab a screw driver, pull out the one driver that I suspected, turns out the magnet has broken off the speaker...:( Now I check the other driver... Hmm, why is it not moving. Turns out that one is ceased...

This was my first experience with Ebay, so far its not good. Not sure if it was UPS that damaged it or if it was the seller. Seller told me it was perfectly functional... Now I'm trying to get a hold of the seller to see whats going to happen...

    Any advice?

I had exactly the same thing happen to me with a pair of speakers. When it arrived I knew the idiot seller had done one of the worst packing jobs....EVER...and I knew it would not be good. The magnet for one of the tweeters was in the bottom of the speaker. I tried to re-epoxy it back but could not get the alignment right and ended up ordering a new tweeter. Fortunately I got the speakers at a really good price and it was worth having to buy a new tweeter...but it was still a PITA!

Yeah, this sure does suck the big one. Just tried hooking up the speaker. Only thing that works is the tweeter. The one driver does nothing as there is no magnet, and the other one is ceased good.

At least the seller replied back to me in a timely manner and will call me when he gets off work. So at least that's a blessing.

Hopefully he makes good or something just works out.

Wow that is truly a bummer. The seller should contact UPS and place a claim. They packed it so they can't say that it was packed improperly.

Well I just talked to the seller on the phone, and he is going to contact UPS to figure out what to do next. Says he tested it out before packing it and that everything worked, so it must have happened during shipping... It's a really bummer as I got a sweet deal on the speaker. Guess I'm back on the hunt.

But for now, I just need to wait to hear from him tomorrow so I can determine what I need to do...Thankfully he is being really good about this.

Well, spoke with the seller this morning, he has been extremly helpful. The speaker is packaged and ready to be sent back to him. All in all, things have worked out. He's a nice guy, so I'm fortunate. Also turns out he is a member of club polk, so if you're out there, feel free to say hi.
