Just purchased New speakers (need advice)

Hello everyone. I just purchased the TSi100's and the cs10 speakers for my apartment. I own a TX-sv343 Onkyo receiver from way back. My main use is watching movies and music from my computer which is connected to the reciever through RCA (red and white) cables. The Onkyo does not have any digital out.
My first impressions are that the speakers sound amazing. I set my onkyo to surround mode and they still sounded good, but kind of muffled as compared to just the two channel output. Have I done something wrong?? The two left right speakers (none surround mode) sound clearer and crisper without using the center speaker (surround mode).
Could this be because my receiver is older? Maybe I shouldn't have purchased the center.
Any thoughts on this?
Thank you
Charlie

Stereo music always sounds better in stereo which is 2 speakers and not surround. Also what is your music format? If it is anything lower than 320kbps or in my case loss less than it is pretty much not worth going threw a stereo IMO. What is your receiver settings at for your speaker size and all? You might have to fool around with the setting in order to get the sound you want.HT setup

My music is .wma (192) I think. I have not tried a CD yet to see if that's it. I also need to try a movie.
I agree I probably need a new reciever but will that make a noticable difference?
The reciever does not have many settings. It has a surround mode with center set to normal or wideband.
I might be better off just getting a sub instead of the keeping the center. -

Yes in the question about cd's that format is terrible for playback on a system. Also a nice new receiver may make some difference as well.HT setup
