No phono out put

Greetings,
I hope this is the proper place for this question.
I have a Onkyo sr507 and it does not have phono hook up. I still will spin them big round black things from time to time. How can I hook up my turntable. Its anolder technics mid 80's nothing special.
any suggestions?????

Does your table have an internal amp or do you have an external phono stage?

You will need a phono preamplifier that can take the millivolt level, RIAA-curve equalized output signal of the (presumably) moving magnet (MM) cartridge in your turntable and convert it to a flat, line-level signal. At that point, you can use any input on your receiver/amp (AUX, TUNER, CD, TAPE IN, what-have-you) to connect the phono preamp.

There are myriad phono preamps at all price points (from tens to thousands of dollars).

EDIT: if you happen to have a low-output moving coil (LOMC) cartridge, you'll need a phono preamp with additional gain (amplification) or a "pre-preamp" or "head amp" or a step-up transformer (SUT) to use with the phono preamp.

More recent turntables sometimes have a switchable phono preamp built in to them. If yours does, there's probably a switch on it someplace for the preamp :-) I suspect from your description that it is too old.
Can you post the model number (or a photo)?

How did you have your turntable hooked up before, straight to your receiver or to a smaller box first, then that to the receiver? Hardy's right though; a phono preamp will allow you to easily hook up your turntable to any receiver. They can be cheap or expensive, depends on how much you want to spend. One that I've heard a lot of praise for that's light on cash in the NAD PP2

I will check out the specs later, I do not believe it has a internal amp.
It was previously hooked to the Technics integrated amp before by RCA cables so it sounds like i need a phono pre amp.

OK so next question,
Do I spend a couple hundred on a phono pre amp and a also need a new needle. Or replace the 20 yr table with a new one for not much more?

What model is the current turntable?

You don't have to spend that much if you don't want to :-) Heck, if you still have the Technics amp or receiver you had, you can use its phono preamp! Just hook the turntable to the phono input of the vintage amp, turn off the speakers and the volume all the way down, set the input selector (or "REC OUT" selector if so equipped) to PHONO and hook the tape output to a line-level input on your Onkyo.

Ok guys, I got on a different project for a while. Now the wife wants to listen to LPs so I need to get this going. I looked at the NADpp2 for $129 and I need a new cartridge $49+ (P-mount) to make the 20yr old turntable work.
Once again is a better way to go just get a new TT with built in pre amp?
I could spend $200-$250 maybe on new.
By the way my current TT is a Technics DC Servo automatic turntable model # SLBD27 if that help at all.
