Whats the best way to bi-amp? (Split pre-outs)

I am wondering about how to split the pre-out signal from my receiver. Whats the best way to do that with out suffering too much loss? I have heard conflicting things about it. I just got of the phone with HK tech support and he told me that just using a cable splitter is the best way. I find that hard to believe, however I have read that it is ok. I also read that you can assign your zone 2 pre-outs to be the same as the front pre-outs but he said you cant do that with my receiver. I have the AVR 254. Any ideas would be great.

A Y-cable will work just fine to split the pre-outs.
