Audio Technica buzzing sound in headphones

Posted this in speakers, but wasn't sure if that was the right place so re-posting here:
Hi all:
I bought a pair of the AT noise cancelling headphones off of Amazon a while back at a great price. I don't have any paperwork anymore, but I'm getting an odd "feedback" sound now. It's an odd electricish buzzing sound (my God I'm the audio word smith....)
It seems to kick in only when the noise cancelling is turned on. If I toggle the switch a few times it will go away. The noise is random in its appearance, but EXTREMELY annoying.
Anyone else run into this? Any feedback on AT's customer service? I still have the original box somewhere, but I wanted to see what you guys had to say first.

Please dear God let someone else have had this issue in the past. I am about ready to smash these cans into a million bits and buy myself a new pair for Christmas....2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ
