hi i have just emailed someone about their ad for some polks for sale by owner. the pictures look fine and the description is great cond. we will possibly be travelling a couple hours to check them out. i was wondering if these speakers are necessarily older and the quality for price. these are all for pairs except the cs. rt1000is, fx300i, and cs250s. the price is 275 for all. any help would be appreciated. oh also other than checking the speakers and connectors and switches and such and of course listening to them, any tips or tricks to make sure they are straight. thanks

thanks for quick reply, so barring obvious rips, bad sound etc. you would not worry if they are older

Absolutely not! Polk was smart and used rubber surrounds... so as long as all the drivers are functioning, no tears, etc, they're fine. :)

    Go get them, report back!

That'll be a HELL of an HT for that price. I'm jealous.

Watch out for older powered speakers. when the amp goes in them could be trouble. Also, I have a pair of Infinities, with a downward fire-ing port, and when the spikes sink into the carpet, bass suffers. Still all in all a good deal. Make sure to ask if the amps are good.

I'd buy em if I had 250.00 because he probably only wanted that much.;)
Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Agreed, make sure that both amps are working. Hopefully the person has them hooked up to demo them. If I remember correctly, those have thin metal plates that connect the top and bottom binding posts so if those aren't on there, the sub won't work unless a separate RCA cable is run from the amp. Seems like a great price. The RT1000's alone are worth at least $200 in good shape.

is biwiring worth fooling with, i have heard both sides swear by it. in next couple days i will be meeting with this man to check his set out to buy. im very excited that i will finally have a good quality ht. i can only imagine what some of the systems you guys describe in your homes sound like. any advice on the best connectors for a reasonable amount of money, right now i just twist wires and connect. these forums really do seem like a lot of passionate folks who are very generous with their time and advice, im glad i found it and polk speakers.;)
