I wasn't even sure what they were. I figured if someone wanted them, I could pick up and hold them if they were local. If they're overpriced, nevermind then :)

    Thanks

Nah, they aren't overpriced if they're as nice as they look. I don't think they're a screaming deal either, though. ;)

See if you can pick them up for $75, take a listen, and move 'em along. :D

I put a post on a forum last nite about them. Seller told me he would take 95 bucks for them. If he emailed me back one day sooner he would have sold them. In the meantime I picked up a pair of Monitor 70's brand new for 270 out the door from a local high end shop in Bensalem Pa.

meh...I wouldn't go crazy over them. Offer him, $75 and settle at $95 or so. I wouldn't get too excited over them though.

RTA 8's are a very nice, capable speaker............if in really good shape I wouldn't pay more than $100.

The 8Ts are a very pleasant speaker with surprising bass for their size. I'm not sure you should have passed.

I'd take the RTA8's over Monitor 70's everyday of the week. Add the RD0's to the 8T's and you have much better balanced sounding speakers than Monitor 70's for less $$$.

That wouldn't be Quest for Sound would it?

    Hearingimpared,
Got them at quest for sound. He has a pair of Rti8's as well. May return the Monitors and try them out. He seemed to think that the monitors were better.

    Heiney9,
I had the Rdo "upgrade" and actually hated it in my 11t's. Took away the vintage sound. Plus, they were the tweeters for the M series, a lesser model werent they? Plus, made in Mexico as well, not designed and made in the USA like the Sl-2000's. I even let the rdo's break in for 50 hours or so. Went back to the sl-2000 and liked them again. (not trying to start that discussion again) just my opinion.

Ps. I forgot to ask if they were rta8tl's or rta8's when I emailed him. If any one wants. I will pick them up as I am in Philly not far away untill someone can get them?

    Mike,
They were rti-a8's for around 350 bucks. The shop owner said they were an unloved model and directed me to the Monitor 70's they were paired with. I was surprised to see them in his shop. Whats your opinion?

The craigslist ad is for a pair of unnamed polks in south jersey. They are the rta8t's I think, but they did also make an 8tl too didnt they? The ones at Quest for sound are the new rti-a8s. sorry for the confusion.

RTi 8s are a pretty good speaker. Don't know why the dealer would say they aren't as appreciated as the M70s...a bit brighter and more detailed than the Monitors...a bit much on some material, but that's pretty much true for that whole rev. The A series tamed some of that. Anyway, I prefer the RTis over the Monitors...and as stated above, the RTA8Ts and TLs are better yet. Small tower, big sound, surprising bass...in a smaller room, you might prefer them to 11Ts.

I agree. He seemed to think that they wouldnt be much different than my LS70's. Said that the Monitor 70's would best them in the bass department. It brings up a good question to start a new thread on, that I have debated on many purchases. Do you take the TOTL of one series, or the entry level of the next line up? For example, during my API period, I had the ASF2.1's, the top dog of the Athena line. The next model in that like was the .2 designation, was "improved" but lost 10 lbs. I went from them to the the energy c-500, smaller, but next up the api line up. I was supposed to get a pair of RC30's, smaller than the c-500's but placed above the C series, but worldwide couldnt locate the pair, so he gave me the more expensive, but lesser c series speakers for the same price.
My point for this would be are the Monitor 70's at 919 dollars a pair Msrp, tops of the monitor line, better than the RTIa8, at 839 dollars a pair, but further up the polk ladder, a better choice?
