QOTD: Who does the gift wrapping?

I think there will be some surprising answers to this question. I know most let the S.O. do the wrapping work but you can't let her wrap her own gift...unless you have mad skillz! But someone's gotta wrap the gifts! Even if it's a 4ft stuffed giraffe!

So who does it?

Me? I gotta wrap gifts myself. I don't really mind it. I just hate running out of paper. I usually don't use wrapping paper for large stuff though. Seems too expensive and a waste. Besides, heavy tools don't wrap well. For those I either use cut up and taped together brown paper bags or newspaper. Both seem more durable than wrapping paper.

My daughter has taken over the gift wrapping from me. She, like me does a perfect job when wrapping gifts. My wife does a pretty sucky job because she's always in a rush so we fired her ;)

Since were are on the wrapping subject. We used to receive a gift box of wrapping paper from a customer who's located in Wisconsin. For what ever reason that paper was the best I've ever used. Its about twice as heavy as standard paper and has a beautiful finish to it. I'm guessing they do business with a small paper converter who runs special paper for wrapping.

I despise gift wrapping with a vengeance. 20 minutes of me struggling with paper, scissors and scotch tape only to see my best efforts ripped off said gift in seconds...

Gift bags rule. If it doesn't fit into a gift bag, I'll go find a bigger bag somewhere.

I actually wrap better than my wife.. learned it from my mom so the gifts under the tree from me look better than the ones from her :)

and Bags are great, I didn't need to use any this year but Gift bags can definitely save time and aggravation.

I like gift wrapping, only because it is one of those things that seems to make order out of chaos. You start off with this stack of THINGS that look like a huge mess, and when you're done you end up with a nice-looking stack of festive gifts ready to be given out :)

    Sounds goofy, but whatever.

Besides, like washing dishes, it's one of those chores that I actually find kind of relaxing. Almost like a Zen thing; it's essentially a mindless task that still takes a lot of attention, so it's very non-stressful.

That said, gift bags ARE awesome. :)

The wife wraps most of it, but I can do a pretty good job.
When son #1 was in boy scouts, they raised funds by a gift wrapping station at the mall.
We worked a lot of shifts out there, and you learn how to do it quick and with less
    paper/tape waste.

Same here, bags all the way, if they are wrapped, it's my wife who has done it.

Me too... hence the GF does all of the wrapping. Even her own gift. She still hasn't figured out how I pulled that off or what it is. :D

My wife is a flippin' artist when it comes to wrapping gifts and just a little oc about it, so she gets the bulk of the work. Me? The word "utilitarian" comes to mind. If I cut enough paper to cover the box, it's a successful job.

Why bother at all? If you give cash and receive cash from everyone, you're not even exchanging anything at all. Why not just keep your cash and save yourself the hassle of even talking to anyone. The point of exchanging gifts isn't just "here's something, same thing I got everyone", it's "I know you and thought of you and thought you'd like this."

Maybe you just have shallow friends and family who just want cash and don't care where it comes from, but if they are returning your gifts for any reason other than "it doesn't fit" or "I already have it" I wouldn't get them anything, let alone cash.

Funny you should ask.............I paid Amazon this year to Holiday wrap all the items I bought, paid them $3.99 for each package. When I received them, because of the shoddy packing job, most were torn, ripped, scuffed and basically are unpresentable. I shot off an angry e-mail to Amazon CS, I hope they refund the gift wrapping portion.

So, I'll be rewrapping them myself. What a waste of $$$

I don't mind and even like gift wrapping however, if it is going to charity I will gladly let them do it. I don't however use that much wrapping paper anymore since for family member we will often use gift bags which are recycled year after year. Gift wrap paper are usually used for non family member or for the younger kids (grand children) which enjoy tearing the paper away and are anxious to find out what their new toys are.

Ugh, I hate it. Me and the wife just did it tonight, man that was fun. We did it drunk last year and forgot who half of the gifts were for as soon as we finished wrapping the gift. My son was not happy when he got a Barbie, and my daughter was equally as confused when she got an AXE gift set.

I wrapped all my sons presents this year. My wife thinks my lack of wrapping skills is a ploy to get out of wrapping. I have to be honest, I don't know what the problem is, really. seeing as how I've done packaging design for toys and other things that require exact folds and precision cuts and stuff, you'd think I could wrap a damn box.... But it always looks like I was multi-tasking a frat party, a bar fight and trying to imprison an enchanted, living box in paper with one hand tied behind my back and forced to tear the paper with my toes and teeth....
So after I wrapped all the little guy's presents, she just stood there, mouth agape and head shaking in disbelief... Good thing he's only 2... When he gets older he's going to think Santa is a **** at gift wrap or that he pissed off the elves or something.

My wife wraps all the gifts, except her own. Sad part is, even though I finished shopping for her a couple of months ago, I haven't got around to wrapping anything yet. Guess I need to get on that tonight, since we are leaving in the morning.
