having some time off for the holidays I finally got around to replacing the xover in my a9. I first realized something was wrong when I noticed no sound coming from the tweeter. I put a brand new tweet in and still no sound, so I ordered a new xo.

the project really wasn't that hard at all, just a little time consuming. had to be real careful uninstalling than reinstalling all the drivers.

heres the culprit. as you can see the white square thing on the left, the bottom is melted and warped. after replacing the xo and putting everything back together, still no sound from the tweeter! fortunatly for me, I had a brand new one in the closet. put the new tweet in and bam! full sound from all drivers and tweet :)

Why would the x-over go bad ....and what improvements would changing the caps yield? I am assuming new caps are going to be higher quality than the stock one used? just curious...

I honestly don't know, with my club discount the new xo was only about 45 bucks. but now I do have a spare sitting on my desk as a learning tool

I'd venture to say if you took your time and did some reading then asking the guys around here some questions you could upgrade those x-overs. And I'd also venture to say those bad boys would sound even better.

They upgraded crossover would have to be mounted in the bottom of the cabinet, there's no room left on those boards.

Awesome setup. Looks neat and clean! If my setup looked like that the wife would be tickled! Even with an extra set of towers in the room.

Why wasn't the replacement covered under warranty?
