Dsw micropro 1k or entry level svs?

I've been really enjoying reading the forums here at club Polk. Nothing but great advice. Any ways I'm set on saving some cash for a better sub to replace my psw10 and i keep seeing the svs brand name come up. I really have no way to listen to an svs so what i m wondering is, would an entry level svs sub out preform a DSW micro 1k?. And if so, would you recommend it to me over the Micro pro 1k? (I work a 7.50 an hour job so $100 buck difference is a lot).

$350 micro pro off of new egg shipped.

$450 PB-10NSD not sure what it is shipped.

Some advice would be great.

I have never heard either of these subs, so my advice may be way off here. Judging from what I have "heard" and read about these subs, SVS is a great company that makes great subs, they are just a bit spendsy for the average Joe like me. Also, the MicroPro series from Polk is also another very highly regarded sub line as well. If it were me, I would pull the trigger on the MicroPro and save the $100 (not to mention shipping charges) But other people may suggest spending the extra $100 (atleast) and getting the SVS. Sorry for the confusion and I'm sure someone will be along with better advice, lol.

Grab the SVS, especially if it's for HT.

The micropro is an awesome musical little sub, but it's definitely lacking in SPL. For that reason, it gives you really quick, accurate, tight bass which to me is more than enough.

Lol naw, you're just saying what's been said before. Both SVS and Polk's new subs are great subs but the micropro's are better aimed at music while SVS does better for HT.

I wouldn't exclude Polk's DSW series though, I keep hearing they're great double duty subs. I was surprised at the size of the cabinet and bass the DSW400 put out when I heard one and that's an 8" woofer.

I can't find any place that sells DSW subs. I looking for a sub thats roughly 60/40 music/ht.
In a average bed room sized room.

Is the DSW subs as nice as the micro pros?
The subs going to be 60/40 music/HT in a average sized bed room.

Is the micro pro 1k SPL really that lacking?
Would it be able to keep up with M60s CS10 front with M40s surrounds powered by a basic 5.1 YAMAHA RX-V463?

If it's going into a bedroom, then by all means grab the micropro. You'll be surprised by it's output. I just meant it doesn't have high spl if you're going to run it in a main system in a medium/large sized living room at high volumes

A few sites that sell the DSW 400 sub, I have bought from J&R before, great place to buy, and free ground shipping to boot. Also as Freddy said Polk refurb (ebay store) is a great place to buy too. The same two sites also have the DSW 600 as well, for a bit more money.

Don't get me wrong here because I am a total Polkaholic, but comparing my old Polk DSW Micropro 1000 to my SVS PB12-Plus is like comparing a pea shooter to a nuclear missle. And... I also think the SVS does an equally fantastic job for HT or music. I am not familiar with the SVS model you mention, but I would say if SVS makes it, it is an outstanding sub.

If you are considering a SVS sub, I had a HSU STF2, which was a fantastic sub for both music and HT. Compares very well to SVS. When it comes to sub, consider a company that specializes in them.
Depending on the size or quanity you need, Worldwide stereo in PA has and energy ESW-V8 sub for 225 bucks on ebay all the time. I owned one, and it looks and sounds great as well. It was originally a 550 dollar sub. I went thru a sub phase a while back, and blew thru a lot of them. ended up with a Paradigm Pdr8 v.4, but was on my way to get the Energy, but got side tracked at the Paradigm dealer.

Very true, however, most of us can't afford a nuclear missle, lol. In all fairness though you can sometimes get lucky in the used market if you keep your eyes open.

I second the recommendation for the STF-2. For around the price range you're looking at, its easily the best balance of musicality and raw SPL. Very flat frequency response, plenty of SPL, and it sounds cleaner than anything I've ever heard from a sub (SVS included)
