Harman Kardon 3600 or 2600????

Demo'd with RTiA5's and the 3600 sounded very nice. Definite difference between the 2. I am sure the extra power is being appreciated by the speakers. Fuller, richer, etc. With that said, anyone know where to go for the best price. JR quoted $699 with no tax and no shipping. Now the real work begins. The wife mentioned after Christmas but the new speakers are beckoning to have power. Thanks again all and have a wonderful Christmas.

i would go for the 3600 myself. i dont think that the 2600 has pre-outs.
Cant really give a rec on price since i have not looked but i have a 254 and love the sound of it. It is definitely a good choice.Front - RTiA5's
Rear - RTiA3's
Center - CSiA4
Sub - PSW110 -
Go for the 3600 ifyou can afford it. The RTi's are really power hungry, the more the better. I'm looking for an amp to push mine. The 354 is a nice AVR too and is a little cheaper than the 3600. +3 on the 3600, pre-outs are a plus and the 2600 doesn't have them.

They took away the pre-outs from a 2 series? That 2600 is a replacement for the 254 which does have pre-s? Hmmmm....are you guys absolutely sure about that...that's one area that H/K has been pretty consistent!
IN any case..
+1 on the 3600

Not sure, couldn't find very good pictures of the back panel on it. I found a website that listed the preamplifier outputs and the only one they listed was the sub. I remember doing a search on it a week or so ago and I found a good pic. that showed it had analog inputs for 6 or 8 channel, but no pre-outs besides the sub, I could be wrong though.

Damn, you guys are right and that is a SHAME...because that removes one more nicely priced AVR that had pre-outs....and adds it too the list..
The Yamaha 663 yes, 665 no
Pioneer 1018 yes, 1019 no
H/K 254 yes, 2600 no
Denon 2809 yes, 2310 no
it's getting so that you can't find a decent new 500 dollar or less AVR with pre-outs!
And that's not good!

That is very true and I have been noticing that trend too. It is not a good trend, but one that is probably designed to make us have to pay a bit more to get an AVR with pre-outs, rather than to make them more affordable. Who knows maybe I am wrong, but it is a shame none the less.
