Onkyo tx-sr 606 problem

I have a black and white line at the very top of my TV maybe an 1/8th thick when I run my HDMI through my receiver but not when I run it straight to the TV. It's weird, it's not on every channel. Mainly just SD channels and sometimes on HD channels when it's not an HD broadcast(not wide screen). Anybody heard of this problem with a receiver? I can only assume it's the receiver because it only happens when I have it hooked up. Any chance this is something I can fix?

I'm gonna hit up the AVS forum but thought I'd start here first.

Letterboxing maybe, or some sort of video aspect is all I can think of. Hope you get it fixed.

I got this fixed by swapping out my $100 4 foot monster hdmi cable going from my receiver to my TV with a 17 dollar blue jeans hdmi. Got the monster when I got my TV and blu ray player 3 years ago from Best Buy. Sales guy told me it was the only one that would work for blu ray. Man I was an idiot then, well maybe just more of an idiot.

LOL, we all have fallen for something like that at one time. I myself bought a $75 Rocketfish HDMI cable when I bought my TV, not knowing it wasn't any better than the $5 ones they had in a bucket in the back, lol. Of the four HDMI cables I have owned in my life, it is the only one that I am not currently using because it is broke. The one I got from the Comcast guy for free is just as good as that one ever was, lol. Glad you got it fixed.

First off Happy St. Patrick's Day!:D T minus 90 minutes then off for some beers with my old man.

Seem to be having more hdmi handshake issues lately with my BDP and receiver. Mainly just with the initial connection when I first select my source on the receiver.

It's very finicky and not constant at all. It will happen with any cable and any input on my reciever. It will go months with no problems then a week or so of "no signal" lit up on my Onkyo's display. I usually get it to connect by turning my receiver off and then back on. Sometimes it will take multiple times of doing this to get it to connect. This works 98% of the time, sometimes it seems like I just have to let my receiver warm up for like 30 minutes.

BDP has no problems connecting to my TV. Pretty much seems like my oinker doesn't want to play nice with my sony.

Anybody else having this issue I've read other forums and it seems I'm not the only one with this issue but haven't found much for remedies. Got a fix for this? Would a switch work? I wouldn't think it would but might try it.

I guess it's not that big of a deal and it's somewhat new technology. There seems to be a lot going on with HDMI and it's not all figured out yet or atleast I don't understand much of it. I could easily keep rambling on.

Hmmm, not sure. It may be a question for Onkyo CS, normally I would tell you to ask a 2 yr old for help before asking Onkyo, but I just called them the other day and I was completely satisfied with the experience. It may be worth a shot. My 806 is finally starting to show signs of the well documented "blue dot" issue and I am needing to get it repaired soon. Good luck, hope you get it all fixed up.

Onkyo CS...can't thing of many things 'worse' than that. Even though I like the product! Irony.....Shipped all their manufacturing to Malaysia so they can produce everything super cheap. But they can't AFFORD to hire even one more CS rep...or someone to ANSWER e-mails?

I know C, that is what I was always told about Onkyo's CS. In all fairness though, I called them and didn't wait on hold long, the guy was friendly and knowledgeable, and they solved my issue. Pretty much all I could ask of any company. What are the odds, lol.
