QOTD: What time do you get to work?

We all have them, that dreaded job where we all have to do that four letter word...work! I'm highly allergic! There are others out there like me as well! Needless to say, we all have that source of income that we must maintain 'cause even if you are as dashingly handsome as myself, looks are fleeting and they certainly don't keep the lights on. Although, I've met some people that the power company would pay to leave the lights off due to their countenance!

Well, that source of income usually requires your attendance from a certain time of day to another, later, certain time of day. It varies from individual to individual and I felt it might be a good source of conversation today! Especially since, for many of us, this will be the last work week of the year and it's not a full week at that. I know I'm looking forward to my time off! It's much deserved and long over-due!

But today I had to be in at 5 AM to facilitate a policy enforcement change. Granted this occurrence is infrequent but it occurs with enough regularity that it is a common schedule for me. Some days, my workday starts at 12:01 AM. Most days though, I am required to be warming my seat and my coffee by 8:30 AM. The erratic schedule comes with the IT territory. Often times my work requires that I be here in off-hours to do critical work so that the impact to productivity and level of service promised our customers and overall risk is minimal.

So what time do you get it?

8:30 to 5:30 is the official time. But I'm normally at work till 7pm. In addition I have a avg 90min drive each way. So door to door is 7am-8:30-9pm.

That said, the 90 min drive crawling thru traffic aint so bad.......thats my music listening time. :) Enjoying the upgrade to sr's.

These days my day starts about 7:00am to wake the kids and get them ready for school. At 8:15am they are gone and my work day is done. Unless my wife leaves me a list, mop kitchen floor vacuum bedrooms yeah yeah yeah I can get that stuff done in a hour easily.

Back in the day of sales and marketing I'd do whatever it took. I'd have to visit a G.M. facility or a paper mill at all hours to meet with different shift personnel. What really sucked about that is in the dead of winter in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Illinois trying to clear the car in a hotel parking lots really really really sucked big time. And it was far worse at 3:00 or 4:00am when I had to pack everything in my car if it was the last night in that hotel. You can't leave things in your car over night when it's 0 degrees. I did leave my laptop in my car one night and it took a long time before it was useful. I did fire it up while it was still real cold just to see what would happen. The screen was all f'ed up and it made some odd noises and seemed a little slow LOL. Our MIS guy would have gotten me a new one or fixed it if I screwed it up and if it was my personal one I probably would not have done it.

Now, when I have to get up eary to hunt in that weather I just stay in bed

I've done it all in the past year.

This is how it's panned out:

    8am-5pm
    10am-7pm
    11am-8pm
    8am-5pm
    6am-3pm
    12:30pm-9:30pm
    8:30am-5:30pm
    8:00am-5:00pm (now)

It changed every other month or so. I hated and loved the 6am-3pm I did for 5 months. I'm not a morning person, but when you leave at 3pm you have time to do stuff!

I work a compressed work schedule meaning I do 4 days a week 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Every other Friday, I have off. The Friday I work, I leave at 5. Works out nicely. I do a bit of consulting on the side and those Friday's come in very handy for side work.

My official schedule is 9a-5p. I usually get here around 8:30 to get things started, as I've got a lot of big projects going on right now.

I live within a mile of work, so I usually get up around 8a, unless I have to take the GF home first. Then I get up at 7:30.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I'm supposed to work a solid 8-5 job. However due to the housing market and what I do (legal work for REO,foreclosures,OCC, ect), I typically will come in at 7-6 for my job or stay even later, ect. Normally if I don't come in early then its giving up the weekend for me and I don't want to do that.

Hours are 7:30 to 4 PM, Mon-Fri., usually hit the gate a little before.

That is unless there is a problem, the I'll stay. Or when I am on call, then whenever the **** hits the fan, which is fairly regularly...

That's the best thing about my job. It's rare for me to set an alarm clock. Work doesn't start till I get there. I do have to make a few concessions, if the plant I'm working in is dayshift only. It's rare for me to be into a customer before 9a.

Most places don't care when I get into to work. For those, I prefer 11a - 6p or 4p to 11p.

It's not all about plant time. It's more about getting everything accomplished for the week. That includes, paperwork, driving, reports and the actual work I do.

Last time I talked to my boss was 3 months ago. Last time I had any contact was an email about 3 weeks ago.

8-5 most days scheduled, with planned evening and some weekends.
My boss lives in Canada. I've never met him.
Long commute from the bedroom to the other bedroom that serves
as my office. That might change soon with the company being sold.

I'm trying to decide if i want to work from home or not... I figure it'll save me about $75 a month in gas, and money from eating lunch here, and i'll get more sleep.

On the flip side, i don't know if i'd EVER get dressed....
