Experience with Tang Band subs ??

Have a pair of RT3000s. Two of the 8" subs are damaged. Even though I was able to track down the last one (MW8500) in inventory within Polk (so they say), it's only one and I need two. Then someone on this forum recommended to use the Tang Band 8" sub as an equivalent replacement. Specs look awesome. Anyone have any experience with this driver, or any drivers from this company ?? Figured I would keep the one Polk MW8500 as a replacement on the shelf, and use a pair of W8-1747 in the 2nd RT3000 cabinet.

Think I might be going with Dayton instead of Tang Band. Got a great recommendation from Neal Fox, based on some reviews he has read. Looking over the specs, very impressive, matches or outperforms the TB in most areas, and about $30 cheaper too.
Think I may have found my 8" RT3000 replacement driver !!!

From your links, it looks like you are not using Parts Express. They actually have the W8-1747 priced the almost the same as the Dayton ($5)

FYI, some guy reviewed the TB's and said they are 'muddy'. Almost everyone seemed to really like the Daytons.

I would probably run them with the drivers symmetrical in boxes though.

Actually, the website I have above is from a very well known driver retailer called Solen. Folks who embark to make their own speakers, as high end as you want to go, these guys have the parts. They actually specialize in crossovers, both pre-assembled and the parts to make them. They are literally right around the corner from my house, so don't have to worry about bringing the drivers in from the US.

I am convinced after reading some comments from a few of you on here, as well as reviews, that the Dayton's are the replacement driver of choice over the TB. I will purchase a pair, and install them both in the same cabinet. Looking forward to see how they will perform against the Polk MW8500 drivers.

I would also checkout Silver Flute drivers. A few have used them to replace other Polk drivers and not had a problem, so they may do you as well.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. While the driver specs look respectable, and the price is defintitely right, I am the type of guy that likes to feel my music, and therefore drive the system very hard at times. Just looking at the power handling alone (100 watts), my fear is that it would not last long with the 300w RMS, 700w peak plate amp in those sub cabs. Also, the Dayton goes a little lower than this driver too. So while I think this driver looks great, for my needs, I think the Dayton 8" is still the winner (so far). One huge plus for the Silvers though, is sensitivity, almost 94dB vs I think 88dB for the Dayton. This of course means I don't need as much power to get the Silvers to play at the same level the Dayton's would with more power. So from that respect, probably comes up to the same thing when discussing power handling. But knowing me, will still find the end of that volume knob, and abuse the hell out of these Silvers..

Unless someone else has another suggestion....
