Lsi 7 question

I am using a Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver for my 7.1 HT. I basically use it for a pre-amp. I use a three channel Carver amp to power my Lsi 25 main speaker and Lsi Center channel. I use an Emotiva amp to power my Lsi F/X rear surrounds and rear center speakers. The question is that I also can have two more speakers for presence speakers that I would like to use Lsi 7's but there is no place to amp those speakers. The Yamaha can be set to 6 ohms. So do you thing the Lsi 7 would be damaged using the setting at 6 ohms or should I use RT 55's at 8 ohms and forget about running the Lsi 7's. Any input would be appreciated.

The 7's, while enjoying more power like the rest of the LSi line, is actually pretty close to a 6 ohm load so you should be fine running them from your AVR.

They are the easiest LSi speaker to drive and the "presence" speakers should not have that much information going to them anyway.

long story short - hook em up - you should be fine.

Bluecomet also has a CS400i as a rear center powered by the Yamaha. Is it okay to mix speakers with different impedance?

The CS400i speaker is powered by the Yamaha receiver and is not amped. The Lsi speakers are 4 ohm and have to be amped to handle the load. You can mix speakers with different impedance but they must be correctly amped using your receiver as the preamp for the lower ohm speakers.

Blucomet, the reason I ask is because you already have the CS400i in your system and you plan to use the Yamaha internal amp for the LSi7. The Yamaha therefore has to handle different Ohm loads. I use to have an Onkyo 805 and it accepts mixed impedance as long as you set the speaker impedance setting in the receiver to the lowest (4 Ohms). Just not so sure how Yamaha handles this.

Mixing speaker loads on the same amp is totally dependent on the quality of the amp. Most external amps will be ok with it, and some receivers. (call to ask the manufacturer if you are not sure)

The LSi7's are actually closer to a 6 ohm load than a 4 ohm, and I would not anticipate any issues - but I would still call and ask.

The 6.1 yamaha set up I was running did have the Lsi speakers up front with a Carver three channel amp. I was using the Yamaha RX-V2300 receiver. The new system I am building uses a Yamaha RX-V2500 which is a 7.1 system plus two presence speakers. I would not mix different ohm speakers hooked directly to the receiver without an external amp handling the lower ohm speakers. The Lsi speakers need some higher wattage to make them sound really sweet. Most receivers are not going to push 200 watts on all channels. The Yamaha V2500 pushes 135 watts at 8 ohms which is good but not good enough for the Lsi's. For nomal 8 ohm speakers the receiver power would be fine. I think the Lsi 7's will be o.k. for presence speakers set at 6 ohms. I would not attempt to use any other Lsi speaker set at 6 ohms because the rest of the Lsi line are power hungry and could damage the receiver or speaker.
