I just finished the coil repair on my right SMGa. I followed the Peter Gunn repair procedure and it was surprisingly easy. The coils are setting for a few hours and then I will test. I hope it works!

The left side is ok for now but if it starts to buzz, I know what to do. I think I'll change the socks and re-finish the wood trim.

My SMGa's came in original boxes with all the packaging and are in great shape for their age. They have a born on date of 8/2/88.

I am also considering a crossover upgrade from Peter Gunn. He has an interesting program going on here: http://www.indiespinzone.com/magnestand.html

What a great hobby.

Cheers!

Success! The repair worked and I'm up late listening to everything I can think of. It all sounds better now.

Can't wait to upgrade the crossovers.

    :D

I would like more info on that repair, one of mine is buzzing at high volume, I read that delaminating is common in these, so I just assumed that was it, and was planning on replacing the wire and glue like the guy on you tube. but your post has me wondering if it's a coil now...

I found stands to be a big improvement for Magnepan loudspeakers.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
