Maximum distance of back speakers

I had planned on putting my surround speakers on the side walls but my wife has decided that won't look nice:(
The room is 27 feet long (18'8" wide) with a 12 foot ceiling (not 12 feet tall the entire length but slants 45 degrees down to 8'2" walls on north and south ends).
Can the back speakers be on the north wall 26 feet away from the TV? How high up should they be if the distance is OK? The back speakers will be LSI 7's.
Thanks for your help.

The answer to your speaker distance question depends on your AVR.
In the case of the AVR I own (VSX-517), there is a speaker distance option and the maximum speaker distance supported for the surround speakers (distance from the listening position) is as far away as 45.0 feet. So then 26 ft. is within the supported speaker distance range, there wouldn't be any expected delay or phasing problems.
For the speaker height, the usual recommendations are at ear level or slightly above ear level for surround speakers.
