Hi everyone I have a choice between two old school amps the Nad 214 and the Adcom GFA-535, in anyones opionion can you gave me some insite on which would be the better of the two... I am going to be running my Polk RT55i's with one or the other...The Nad is rated 80 watts per channel and the Adcom is rated 60 Watts per channel. Give me some feedback on which one would be better sounding with the Polk RT55i's I hope some of you guys have had some experence with these two brands. One of the two will be introduced to my system soon, I am finally going into the new world of seprates but I am trying to be wise about it and make the best choices within my budget.....:)

What is your budget?
I have not heard either of those amps but IMO they are both decent.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t -
A few hundred dollars is my budget I found both amps at great deals one audiogon and the other on E-bay. Each amp is selling for no more then 150.00Polks All The Way

I have listened to both NAD and Adcom amps. I have an NAD and a friend has an Adcom. I like mine, he likes his. Better amps can be bought for cubic increases in dollars but these are both good units for their price range. Definately better than a Best Buy special. My preference is for the NAD as I believe they are more consistent in their products and I think their sound is a little more open than the Adcom.Dave
In love with SDA since 1984
2CH: SDA SRS (new caps) with NAD 541I, NAD 917 and modded Phase 400 (soon to be NAD 208)
HT: SDA 1C (new caps, SL2500s, bass mod) with NAD T763 and Monitor 4 as surround
Other vintage stuff, Sansui G9000, Pioneer 1980 -
Those little Adcom's usually bench tested at 78wpc before they reached rated distortion, whatever that was. It was also the best sounding of the initial Adcom 5x5 series.
Is the NAD one of those power envelope jobs? If so, it may be capable of a lot more than 80 wpc. -
Tough choice,,I like the Adcom,,rugged little jobbie,,dual trannies,,IIRC it's a dual mono design. Good luck.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

If the NAD is the PE model get it, otherwise snatch the Adcom.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I agree with the above statement. I currently use a Krell integrated with Dynaudio Contour 1.3 SEs and own an NAD 2400PE as a back up. But it is a great back-up amp and better than the Adcoms ans Parasounds that I have owned. YMMV.
