Sub for medium size room

Room size is 15x18x8.5 - one side of room is mostly open to the kitchen.
90% TV, sports, movies
10% music
generally listen at moderate volumes (-35db to -25db on my Denon 1910 depending on the content - going much louder would disturb dog plus little kids when they are in bed).
Would like sub to be compact. Presently have RT55 fronts with CS300 center - planning to upgrade those in next year. In meantime want to start with just adding a subwoofer - assuming it will give a little more oomph to some movies etc...
I can spend upwards of $600-$700 but am not sure of the power level that is needed given the moderate volume we watch out.
Saw some reasonable prices on Polk direct for MicroPro 1000, 3000. Is the 1000 sufficient and/or is the 3000 overkill. Other suggestions?

The 1000 should do just fine. Sometimes a bigger sub doesn't necessarily = better.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves
