Well, we've got a thread on a best crank it up song and another on the worst. I was trying to organize my cds the other day and noticed that my collection is pretty impressive in the 17 years that I have been buying cds.

I counted my legitimate, store purchased cds and came up with 303. That's quite an investment in music I must say but staggered over a period of time.

Just curious as to how many cds others have purchased. \

Currently have about 300 CDs. We've gotten rid of maybe 40 or so in the last few years for various reasons. Got my first CD in 1988. Also.. 50 albums and maybe not quite 100 self-recorded cassettes left out of a collection that numbered over 200. Also have 700 mp3s that are mostly songs I do *not* have in any other format.

What is staggering to me is that we own 60+ DVDs, and have had a player for only 16 months. Granted, quite a few of them were picked up for less than $10.. but still.

Side note.. I don't believe downloading off the internet is the reason CD/music sales are down. I think sales are down because 1) people are buying DVDs and 2) new music has generally sucked the past several years.

Have approximately 1000 CD's. I use to have over 500 vinyl albums but sold them off as they became available on CD. Also have about 95 DVD's.

    Well,

I feel better now that there are others that have spent just as much or more on their collection of music. When I was looking at all my cds I was thinking "dude this is like $4000 - $5000 worth of music". I was thinking to myself that I am truly a nutcase for spending that much money on audio.

This is a good point. I think mp3's are good to evaluate if you want to buy the cd because I find the cd quality to be better than mp3's in general (but recordings can be terrible as well; too bright; a lot of background noise, etc.)

It seems like since the "Seattle" sound came around, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc. a lot of bands have sounded similar here recently and I've actually slowed down the purchase of new cds. Its almost like we are stuck in the '60s again with the same sound until a band like Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, or something revolutionary like that comes around to change things.

I think the CD sales are hurting a little from MP3s and the music out now does suck. The listener now has the power to download and listen to an album, then decide wether or they want to buy it rather getting duped into buying an album because of one song you hear on the radio or tv. That's a good thing.

The people who download whole albums and burn them as a regular copies are thieves and I don't like it. I'll give the exception to students who can't afford to buy the albums. If you can afford to buy an album, you should to support that band or artist for putting out some good work.

Anyway, I hope I didn't highjack this thread.

Hey ya'll. Ya'll know what??? We've learned alot about each other the past week. Our favorite movie quote, our favorite crank it up song, our favorite get a shotgun and shot the stereo that sucks so bad song, and so on.

Hijack my thread... Hell yeah....as long as it's about audio I don't give an effin care.

It' s great to see so many people with such a great collection of cd's. Totally effin awesome. I'm playing stuff I haven't played in years on my new rigs and enjoying it so much.

Good ole' american coinage and dollars invested in audio. I love it. It's what make the United States a great place to live.

Wango I'm with you...Yesterday I walked out of Best Buys with 1 CD and 3 DVD's. I was thinking the same way you are, the music these days is crap...the dam music industry has noone to blame but themselves. I went down the isle of new music...there was not one CD I wanted to buy....not even remotely. The shame of it is is that there is a lot of good music out there to be enjoyed on some of the smaller labels that doesn't get the airplay or exposure it should..
    As for the poll......Approx 500+ Cd's
    400 Tapes
350+ Albums..That vinyl stuff for the younger crowd.

60 CD's left. I sold 200 of them last year for a pretty penny. :p
    sold to buy DVD's (170) and DVD-audio (15) instead of CD's. I don't buy many CD's anymore. Maybe 5 a year or so.

Not to hijack this thread or anything. but has anyone heard the song by Lisa Marie Presley - Lights out it's not to bad actually.
Download it and check it out.

I haven't heard any of LM Presley's songs, but interesting press... FoxNews panned the entire CD big time; CNN essentially called it a hit.

I don't know about this following in daddy's footsteps thing... from what I've heard, the Osborne kid can't sing, either, but the name is holding her up. I'm sure there are glaring examples I'm not thinking of, but generally, musical talent maybe skips a generation or two?? At least Liv Tyler isn't singing....
