QOTD: If you could have any profession besides the one you have, what would it be?

Yeah, I know a chunk of you geezers are retired and you're going to says you're retired and you don't want any other profession well, thanks, we know, what do you want, a cookie? Anyway, sometimes you just have one of those days/weeks/months/years where you look at your job and probably wonder "What the hell am I doing dealing with this?" Granted most of us don't do much changing because those steady paychecks with all the zeros on them are nice.

But you can't help but let your mind wander at those trying times and wonder what it would be like to do something different. Maybe it's a wish to do something that doesn't pay quite so well but is 10 times more fulfilling and if you could just get that nest egg, you'd drop this deal like a bad habit. Or maybe it's with child-like enthusiasm that you want to be a fireman or an astronaut?

So, if you could have any other profession in the world besides the one you have now, what would it be?

Me? I gotta think about this one. I never really gave it much thought myself. Others in my life seem to think about it often. Usually around this time of year when yearly reviews come down the pike and it wasn't quite as rosy as they were expecting. But I'll have to get back to you on this one. Meanwhile, talk amongst yourselves! Lets see how many cowboys, race car drivers, astronauts and firemen we have out there!

Well, between unemployment (my current profession), and any other... I'd say "any other".

But seriously, if I weren't in Design, I'd like to be some sort of emergency rescue service person. I used to have my sift water rescue certs, my first responders certs and full CPR certs when I was a whirewater raft guide, and thought it would be great to put that to use in swift water due to floods or other natural disasters...

If you ever saw my skinny ****$, you'd never think that I worked whitewater for 7 seasons!

What kind of Design do you do?

Me - after working in a chaotic design office for 15 years being the abused "Doer" (the penalty you pay for being fast and accurate) - I would like to be a "sweeper" in a carpentry shop somewhere - access to tools and no responsibility whatsoever - sweeping is good exercise and I feel calm when I am doing it.

I dunno man, I have always thought a career in Cosmology/Astronomy/Physics would be interesting. Seriously though, I have never had the academic discipline for the training. I'm a geek, just not a very focused one. :o

No doubt about this one. I would have been the greatest NASCAR driver of all time. Even Earnhardt would have had a tough time racing against me
You know when you have a true belief in something, 100% certainty about something? Well for me its that I would have been one of the great ones. However its only a wet dream now. I should have taken my father up on his offers to send me to schools like Bondurant school of high performance driving when I was around 18. Since I didn't grow up in the south I was behind times when it came to racing and went another direction.
I spent 20+ years in sales and marketing following in my fathers huge foot prints and loved it. A good and wise move on my part but do look back and think I did make a mistake by not going after an auto racing life. My brain tells me it was the right thing to do but my heart says I should have been a NASCAR driver. Oh well at 48 its too late now. It would have been perfect because I would have retired from racing just when NASCAR got all **** up.

If you watch PBS much, what Rick Steeves does for a living. He basically travels all-over Europe for his TV show, and reports on the sites to see, where to stay, eat, what beer or drink to try, etc. I would kill for that job...

yeah, not quite what I had in mind. I want to visit the places I want to visit, not places of military conflict. Besides, I'm an army brat myself, so no thanks, I already know better.

besides, this is a what if / fantasy type question. Not looking for depressing reality type answers. :p

Video ethnographer. A chance to travel to far off locales and get paid to be creative. I guess that makes me a dirty hippie. Sorry.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

    Hitman...no women...no kids.

There were a few I would have loved to have done...

But being 100% serious , I begged and wished for something like the UFC ...that you could make a career/money at back when I was heavily into fighting. All the tournaments in Or/Ca/Az were too restrictive...too many rules...no exposure...and most importantly no money.

Then after too many years of teaching ( You dont get to pick who signs up ...I'll leave it at that ) I got seriously burnt out. But seeing as something so cool as the UFC didnt even show up until I was already burnt out , I couldnt have pursued that avenue anyways at that time.

Would have loved being a motorcycle CHP...too much paperwork involved.

Race car/ motorcycle racer...did that just for fun at Laguna Seca and Baylands Raceway Park in Fremont on motorcycles...never got to drive a car in a race though.

Football player...even though played throughout high school...I had started martial arts way before high school to take football seriously...would love to have played proball...

This is acutally pretty easy for me, except I would have a few I would have to choose between.
    1. Professional Trance/House DJ for large venues such as Gods kitchen, ect, like DJ Tiesto. yep.
    2. Corporate credit officer.
3 Commerical Loan workout manager, which is acutally what I strive to be in oh like 20 years. Woohoo go me at age 43! or so I hope.

that's awesome. when I was in Maui for my honeymoon I saw people living in tents on the beaches. Fishing for food. Ripping off tourists with "handmade" trinkets (made in China) and fruit from Costco. I could so do that for awhile. It would get old eventually, but I'd still want to do it.
