From TheOneRing.net
I work in the media biz and today I received a package from New Line Cinema. The contents included the LOTR:ROTK calender (which is one of the coolest things I have ever seen) and a note. It had some basic info and then included some release dates.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

-Theatrical Cut DVD/Video: Late August 2003
-Extended Cut DVD/Video: November 2003

The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

-Theatrical Release: Dec. 17, 2003
-Theatrical Cut DVD/Video: August 2004
-Extended Cut DVD/Video: November 2004

Now, for the very impressive addition to the EE version...
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: Peter Jackson has already finished editing the extended DVD for The Two Towers. In an exclusive interview with the Lord of the Rings Fan Club Movie Magazine, the director stated that the additional footage will total 43 minutes, bringing the running time of the extended cut to a whopping total of 222 minutes. As with the extended Fellowship set, much of the extra material will be character moments. Jackson promises more Gollum and and Treebeard, "We have a great scene - which I would have loved to put in the theatrical version - where he recites really bad poetry to the Hobbits, who are desperately trying not to fall asleep... There are a lot more surprises in that extra Fangorn material."

Jackson's effects company, WETA, is now hard at work completing 150 new effects shots for those extra scenes. The DVD is expected out this coming November.

222 minutes, that's 3 hours 42 minutes, impressive. I loved the EE of Fellowship. I will buy both sets of The Two Towers as I cannot wait until November for the EE.

Wait until late next year, who's gonna do the all night viewing party of the EE trilogy?

Peace Out~:D

Thanks for the heads up Ron!

Ya know, this trilogy sets the standard in which how movies should be made. Peter Jackson got it right from the start and really seems to know what fans want. He's giving it to us too which is a pleasant surprise!

    Are you listening George Lucas?
    No excuses!

I'm up for the 7+ hour marathon of FOTR-EE and TTT-EE in DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete in November 2003 at my place as a prelude to the ROTK opener.

I dunno about all three in EE in November 2004 though - man that would be a friggin' 11 hour stretch........maybe over an entire weekend.

If you have good sources, my friends have found TTT rips out on the net. I believe there is one on Kazaa. My friend says its not all that bad. I am sure the audio quality is subpar, but, its free.

I have seen one version of a "rip". It looks like a 1950's grade B monster movie and sound even worse. The one I saw was a "film of a film".

I have a copy from a friend of mine that is a studio preview. There is no DTS or menu, but the sound it perfect as is the video. The only little drawback is the pop-ups throughout the movie that say "For your consideration". Beats having to wait for the full version.:D I wish I had a DVD burner to make copies.
