So ya I went to my local good will hoping to srike gold and I think I did.

I've had this CD player for about 15mins and i can only say WOW, they don't build them like they used too! The thing is built like a tank its HUGE bigger then any other CD player I've seen in my life time.

Compared to my computer's ability to play CD's (creative X-Fi sound card) this Pioneer blows it away. Going into this $7.50 gamble I really didn't think there was much room for improvement on the source side of things. I thought that an upgrade would require better AMP or speakers. But I was wrong.

The biggest difference i can put into words is that the sound coming from this CD player stands out. I mean the silent sections of music are actually silent in contrast with the rest music. In other words my music now has contrast.

The Pioneer PD-5010 has given me a new respect for the Compact Disc and what it should sound like. My music has never sounded this good.

Will post better review after I've had time to lesson to some more music.

Congrats! Goodwill stores sometimes have some nice stuff cheap! Well maybe not "nice" but it was cheap. I picked up some old Utah 3 way speakers from my local Goodwill a few weeks back for $25 a pair. They look nice.....but damn sure dont sound nice! :p And they're horn loaded, but sound like there is a wet blanket over the horns.

The PD5010 was the 1st CD player I had and I don't remember it sounded so great. I replaced mine with a Pioneer CLD-1080 laserdisc/CD player. To this day, the 1080 beats the 2 DVD/CD players I have now, one of which is a Pioneer DV45A player.

Hey man maybe its not the best CD player in the world. I honestly wouldn't know seeing as I haven't heard anything but $35 DVD players, walk mans, cheap car steros, and what i thought was great my computer.
Too me this CD player worlds different then those other so called "CD PLayers". Not saying its great compared to other electronics you guys might have but I really don't see how there is any room left for improvement when it comes to the Compact Disc players lol.

The 5010 still works to this day. The last time I had it, I remember it didn't play homemade CD's. It's a 2nd generation machine and it didn't have a front panel calender track list display or a digital audio output.

CD players dropped this feature years ago but it was a LED grid display that resembled a month calender which indicated the number of tracks on a CD. It always bothered me that the 5010 didn't have a track time counter. I also remembered that it got recalled by Pioneer for a faulty disk tray drawer(it would get stuck in the open position) and had it repaired for it. But I wouldn't worry about that. Maybe I should give it another listen...
