OK, have to ask re: surround back...
Has anyone experimented and had success with using a single, center channel speaker as your surround back speaker in a 6.1 configuation.
I have a weird back-wall configuration...can't have 2 speakers sitting on the ground behind the seating area.

You might have luck with a di/bi-pole speaker. I've heard of people using a center for the rear, the problem being that you'd have to decide which surround connection to use (left or right) Some Di/Bi-poles have terminal connects for both.Living room:

Ok, they don't call it a "di/bi-pole" speaker, but a center/rear speaker. Either way, you can check it out here: http://www.bicamerica.com/showpage.php?brand=2&type=13&spkrID=59 to see what I mean.Living room:

I ran a 6.1 for a good 2 years or so with a center channel behind the seating area. Best part about it was it was a Polk center channel, with the weird angled cabinet. So I mounted it on the rear wall and had it face downward torward the seating area. Worked great for me!Truck setup

Exactley what I was thinking...with the center mounted up off the floor out of harms way. I have an older Polk Center I'll ry out this weekend (CS2 ?)

I also have had a 6.1 system setup, with a Polk CSM as the rear surround speaker. I was happy with the results, however It was a fairly small theater room which meant it really wasn't required. Additionally, there seemed to be very little material that was 6.1 compatible. This was before I had blu-ray though

Not many titles above 5.1 for blu-ray either at this point. They are out there, but the standard for even new releases is still 5.1 channels of discreet information. Although AVRs will matrix in the rear channels with certain surround modes. -
I've been running 6.1 since it was "new" I don't have a weird rear wall, but my room is too small to properly lend itself to 7.1, and probably 6.1 for that matter. Most 7.1 receivers have a setting for 1 or 2 surround back speakers FWIW. In most cases a properly set up 5.1 is the better way to go IMO. I only run 6.1 now, because I still have the mount there from when I set it up a few years back:o I hope that helps:)Sony 40" LCD
