Help with first system install....

So here is my problem:
I just got my 5.1 system in and I have a Onkyo SR507 and I need to hook it up to my powered sub PSW 10. I only have 2 conductor speaker wire to the sub location.

It "looks" like I need a shielded single sub wire. Is there any way to make the speaker wire work?

Like a bone head I ran 2 conductor 14 ga speaker wire for all my surround system in wall during home construction. I had no idea subs use different wires...

Please pardon my ignorance....and thanks for your input.

You can run either speaker wire from your receiver to your sub's speaker terminal inputs (the wire you ran for your surrounds) and from there run speaker wire from the speaker terminal outputs out to your surrounds or a subwoofer cable (RCA-type cord).

    Btw, welcome to CP yr_tiger.

    Thanks for the help Freddy.

The problem is there is only 1 RCA connection on the back of the receiver.
Can I just use 1 of the speaker wires and solder it to a RCA plug at the receiver side?

    Short story...
1 RCA out of receiver....2 RCA in to sub...I have 2 conductor speaker wire in the wall between them...

There is a sticky on the sub page that says I only need to go into the sub with one wire. So if I can just use 1 of the speaker conducts and put RCAs on both ends I would be in business. Not sure if this is "legal".

I think what you want to do is use a single RCA cord to connect the LFE out on your Onkyo receiver to one of the RCA inputs on the PSW10. I have this same situation with my Jamo, It has stereo inputs for the sub, however I only have 1 output on the receiver. I use the Left LFE input on the sub, and it works great with no problems

You got it brother. That is exactly my question.
    Thanks I will try it.
I just hooked up my 101s and CS10 center to my 507 and we are checking it out with Transformers....Its awesome even without the sub. I was waiting on some connection input on the sub.
Thanks again....I am going to hook up the sub now...:D

    OK Freddy
So I tried that and get this huge humming noise out of the sub...
    Not sure what's going...

    Here's my hookup.
LFE out of receiver over single wire to left/right rca input on PSW 10 sub.
    Thanks...

    All inputs appreciated....

Hmm, I'd say you might have a ground loop issue. Have you tried hooking the sub up to a different outlet? (I don't mean the outlet above/below the one you're currently using, I mean a completely different one)

If you've got a power conditioner, try that instead and see if the hum goes away. I have seen subwoofer cables that have a ground end that you attach to one of the plateamps screws....maybe that can take care of your issue if the above doesn't already.

Interesting thing is the sub hums even when I pull the RCA out the back of the receiver...
I tried another RCA cable I had sitting around and no hum.....This cable is shorter I wonder if my out cable is picking up noise.

OK I figured out the problem!!!!!! As Kawizx9r suspected I have a ground issue. I ran a jump ground wire on the shields of the RCA connects and that fixed the humming...I was originally going to hook up the grounds but I was having a time soldering and the RCAs I got suck...
Thanks for the help you folk on CP kick donkeys.
