So ya know, I put all my bass gear up for sale on CL. Got someone that wanted my strings, thats fine and dandy. Strings are brand new, have a reciept that says 40.00 is what I paid for them, never opened and are just fine. I bought them about 2 months ago but can't return because past the deadline. I tell the guy I'll ship to him for 25.00 bucks including shipping and everything, which I think is pretty dang low as the cheapest you can get them is 30.00 bucks online not including the shipping. comes back and says he'll paypal me 10.00.
YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!
10.00 seriously? are you just nuts or stupid. and then he acutally did send me 10.00 dollars in paypal.
good lord, I mean I know we want to have deals but get real. and this is just one example I've had the past week or so trying to sell some stuff.
I hate people.
sorry now I feel better for my rant. geeezeee.

You have to expect it when you sell stuff on CL. You are always going to get the lowballers. You just have to tell them no and move on

Or just reply "OK, that will buy you one and a half strings, you sure you don't want the rest?"
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

What kinda bass gear? Anything decent?

Lowballers can be a PITA. $25 is already a good price for a new set of bass strings...$10 would be ridiculous. I've paid upwards of $70 for a set of bass strings before.

I can understand the $10 offer as we all like a good deal, but to just paypal you the money after you refused the deal is just being a jerk. I'd keep the money too and just send him the strings when he sends you the last $15...

You gotta look at it from their point of view: you never know unless you ask. Some people are hard up for cash (I'm not saying you) and in those events, people can come away with amazing deals. Paypaling you the money even though you declined is alittle weasely though.

i'll give you $11 for the strings.. :p

    Just kidding.

yeah lowbawlers are annoying. when i find something to buy online on CL, I don't lowball them that much.. it's insulting to say the least. but you know.. we're all trying to get a good deal.

CL is the worst for sellling your stuff.. ton's of people never even show up to buy it once they say they will. i have no problem if they show up and telling them to take a hike. I did this earlier this year.. a guy wanted to buy a tube HDTV from me.. the price was $125, he wanted to give me $75 for it. I will not drop the price that much for anyone.

Got a call two hours later.. the guy didn't even haggle with me. he knew that my asking price was already a good enough deal. He was happy and so was I.
so hold out for your price and stand firm on it. :D

I hear ya! I put up a old Kramer guitar neck and a chrome orignal Floyd Rose tremolo the other day for ONLY $125. The tremolo alone is worth that or more, the neck worth about $75 by itself. I had a dude email me and offer $35 for both....SHIPPED! I replied back and informed the guy that I would make toothpics out of the neck before I gave it away.

I have a Music Man SUB 4 string for sale and another bass and amp, and then the gear was a 6ft monster cable, gig bag ( would sell with the guitar if possible otherwise 25.00 bucks probably), a nice bass strap and a set of strings. The problem I had was the strings cost me 35.00 bucks new. and well you can't really just use strings and sell them so they are still new. He acutally came back and told me he could buy them local for 20.00 and its like well thats nice, I got them for 35.00 and would sell them for 25.00 which I thought was being fair but 10 no way.
And they were Ernie Ball Super Slinky roundwound for 4 string. online you can get them for 20.00 I think but any where near me the only price I can find them for was 35.00 and that was 2 months ago.

    I have done this.
If I was willing to pay "X" and this guy gives it to me for much less... I'll most likely throw in a few bucks. It's still less than I was willing to pay and it doesn't hurt the seller to have a couple extra dollars, right?

I had a Denon amp for sale, while the first guy was driving over,
others were offering me more money to hold it. Same thing happened
on an old Marantz. CL should be renamed to circus list.

eh I understand its the nature of the game, but the whole sending me the 10.00 bucks via paypal was dumb. He's saying now he's not willing to send more money and its like dude, I didn't make you magically put them money in there. He's also just saying crap like you can't hold out on me because I paid you, its like your paid me in part, now pay in the whole as I'm sure that if I give them to you I won't see the money after.

simply reply, the stated price was 20.00. I never agreed to ship the item for 10.00. please send the rest of the money and I will ship the strings.

You have the option to refuse any money sent to you via PayPal, so why did you accept it?

because I figured he was sending part of it on a card and the rest a different way. I've done this before and then after he did it he sent the email to notify me of what he did, and thats when it started.

As far as I am concerned, that is a lot of crap to go through for 20$. Isn't your time more valuable than 20$? Either you return his money or send him the strings and be over so you can stop wasting time and effort for a simple 20$.

    Cheers!

Personally, I'd just keep the $10, and block his email account. There was no pre-existing agreement to purchase those strings.

As far as I see it, that $10 was just a Christmas gift to you.;)
