I am looking for a system for a friend of mine. He came to me today and asked me if I would help him put something together for him, he is tired of all the htib stuff and has heard my system. He does not want to spend a lot of money on this but his budget is in the neighborhood of 1500 so I thought with some help from all of you I could find him something that he could really enjoy. He will be using the system mainly for watching movies and gaming with a little music for partys and what not. So any suggestions of stuff that you all might have for sale or any ideas on what might work for him would be great. I have looked at polk direct and thought to have found some things that would work but I need everything including and avr sub and speakers 5.1 to start and maybe 7.1 if the deal is right.
Thanks all

For a good starter 5.1 system, I always recommend the RM6750. You can find it on polkdirect on ebay for a steal! Then you can build of it with bigger/better separates.
The receiver and/or amp is purely subjective...sooooo may options with that budget. Get the speakers first and see what monies is left.Living room:

I think that $1500 would get him a great setup. Here is a quick suggestion.
newegg.com - free shipping
2 monitor 60's - $260
2 monitor 40's - $130
CS2 center - $120
PSW505 - $250
total - $760
Then add the AVR of your choice. If you dont mind refurb you could get a harmon kardon from their ebay store for cheap. Or just look around and get one that has the features/connections that he needs. Looks liek he may be able to get out for under $1000 if he tries. The challenge here is tonot get hooked and always want more. LOL
Good luck.Front - RTiA5's
Rear - RTiA3's
Center - CSiA4
Sub - PSW110 -
Edit: Looks like packetjones beat me to the Monitor reco...
If you want to go new, the deals that newegg.com is running on the Polk Monitor series are hard to beat, for example:
Front: Monitor 60 for $260/pr
Center: CS2 for $120
Surround: Monitor 30 for $95/pr
That's around $500, which would leave you $1000 to split between the receiver and sub.
$400-500 will get you a respectable sub from Hsu, SVS, Outlaw, and Polk.
That would leave $500-600 for a receiver, perhaps from Onkyo, Denon, HK, or Marantz. The Onkyo SR607 is well-equiped and goes for around $500.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. DC-1/RB-1582 MKII/Sonos Connect also feed Polk 7C in garage or Dayton IO655 on patio.
2.1 ch Basement Gym: Denon AVR-2807/Klipsch Forte I or NHT SB2/JBL SUB 550P x 2/Chromecast Audio.
2.0 ch Living Room: Rotel RX-1052/Emotiva DC-1/Klipsch RF-7 III/Sony ES BDP/LG 65" LED.
