Need computer cookie help

My wife's laptop (running XP) has suddenly quit accepting cookies. This is the same whether I am using IE or Opera, and it is the same at multiple sites. No new software has been installed recently. All updates are installed.

I have checked to make sure both browsers are set to accept cookies. I have tried with firewall and anti-virus disabled. I have cleared cache, history, temporary internet files. I also tried rolling back IE to an earlier version, no luck. Virus and spyware scans don't help.

Anyone have any ideas why this computer simply won't accept cookies? It's driving me nuts and certain sites require cookies, which is irritating my wife. And we all know that isn't good.

go to start click on control panel. Click on internet options. Click on internet option.Click on privacy. The slider should not be all the way up. as you move the slider up and down it will tell you what is and is not allowed. Let me know if this helps.

Also, go into the Internet Options and delete your temporary files. You could be out of quota for internet files.

    Reading is important.

This is a very interesting problem. I've never used Opera, so I'm not sure if it shares IE's settings as far as Internet security, but try Firefox maybe - it uses its own settings and cookie repositories. If that isn't working it sounds like a Firewall issue.

Opera has its own settings also. Tried the firewall thing too, no help. But I did just figure it out.

Somehow the system date got changed to 2010. This is not a problem for some cookies apparently, but it is for others such as Amazon and the few other sites I tested on. Changed system date to 2009 and all is back to normal.

It always drove me nuts that on Windows, the easiest way to look at a calendar was to open up the "set time and date" dialog box, so you could easily inadvertantly change your system time.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Not my laptop so I can't say for sure but that's probably what happened. It was really beginning to frustrate me because none of the logical steps had any affect on it at all.
