NHK Broadcasting of Japan has been developing the next standard of HD which is Ultra High Definition for broadcast in 22.2 surround sound and in 8k content 7,680x4,320 (16:9) which will be available in the next 25 to 30 years from now on broadcast, but possibly tv's will be able to have that technology sooner in the next generation of tv's and on the next generation of CD that replaces bluray.

My guess is like a lot of Japanese stuff it just won't take off. I'm happy with 5.1 and I don't think the wife would let me get away with more than 7.1. Even on the cheap @ 50 bucks a speaker it would cost $1100 just for crappy sound. Then add subs, and electronics. What if your an HTfile? Those amps are going to add up real quick. Lastly you also have waf to deal with.

    Quantity, not quality!

This is being developed specifically for Americans!

NHK Broadcasting of Japan was the first to test and develope HD signal tv starting back in the late 1960's which takes decades to achieve. We'll see this in the next 20 to 30 years.

And if you thought phase cancellation was a problem before....
This is seriously the answer to a question no one was asking.

    What? No...pure and simple...just NO!

What the hell do we need 22.2 surround sound for? Seriously...there are like 3 people in America that have large enough HT rooms to actually justify that, and it's still ridiculous overkill. 22.2 surround sound really has no practical application, other than the singular purpose of displaying how large ones machismo is.

How many speakers can you possibly put in a room? Do you have any idea how expensive it would be to put together a 22.2 surround sound system?

Add in a 22.2 processor, 22 speakers, 22 channels of amplification...miles of speaker wire and IC's...It's ridiculous. You're looking at 8-9000 dollars to simply put together a decent entry level setup. My 5.1 HT setup has cost me a total of about $1200-1300, and it sounds DAMN good IMO.

    I'm boycotting this...lol

22.2 surround sound...For the man who has everything, except terrible phasing issues.

the more speakers they can fit into a theater the better if you ask me. I imagine that's the only place that a 22.2 system would be used. The last few movies I went to see sounded horrible compared to my home system. maybe with 22.2, theaters could project the sound much better.

Taking to long. Do it in 5 years. Anything that takes 25-30 years to develop is obsolete the day it is finished.
