SVS vs Paradigm Sub
Hi. I currently have a Paradigm PW-2500 15" 250w RMS sub. I'm happy with it, but I keep hearing such good things about these SVS's. I'm really tempted to try the 20-39 pc+ that's in the flea market, but wondered if anyone had any idea how the subs might compare with each other. I know the SVS is 12" vs 15" for the Paradigm, but the SVS is also double the RMS wattage.
If it helps, my current system consists of:
Denon AVR-788 7.1 receiver with Audyssey MultiEQ
Front - 2x Polk Audio r50's
Center - Polk Audio CSM
Surrounds - 4x Polk Audio T15's
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

The most impotant information for a sub is the cubic feet of you room and any large openings to the room.
I would say thought that the SVS even though 12" woofer with the much higher wattage will do a better job. Are both subs ported or sealed ?
Just looked at the ad, nice sub. it is ported and should rock a medium sized room very well. Not to **** on the FM sub but have you looked at some of Epiks new offerings?Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

Thanks for the reply! It's actually currently being used in quite a small room (12x10 or something like that). Only openings are two small doors (closet and hall) that can be closed. I know it seems like overkill, but I like to really feel the deep bass during movies, and there's no doubt the Paradigm does it well. Besides, my HT will be in a bigger room eventually once I get my own house. So, that is something to consider as well. Oh, and the Paradigm is ported in the rear. I'm wondering if the SVS would be a pretty decent upgrade, or whether the difference would be fairly small.

I would say a definate upgrade. I had rather have a high wattage amp driving a smaller woofer than the other way around.
Assuming your sizes are correct and a 9' ceiling you room about 1100cf
The PB13 is a 13" woofer driven by 750watts. My room is 4200cf with a 1200cf opening and it makes me very happy.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

Definitely SVS...better sub...also more musical than that paradigm if that's a factor in your decision. This is an excellent double duty sub (HT and Music)...Most 15" subs are just a bit too bloated and slow for music unless they're super high end!

The only Polk sub I've had experience with was the dual 10" PSW650, and to be honest I wasn't really impressed. It could go lower than my single 10" Velodyne VX-10, but it didn't go as loud, and there was more port noise. The PSW650 was my first attempt at replacing the VX-10, at which point I then went to the Paradigm PW-2500 I have now. -
The new series Polks like the 600s are head and shoulders above the sub you mentioned....these are the best subs Polk has ever built...that said. I'd still go with the SVS for your purposes!

The PSW650 wasn't a great subwoofer to begin with...no suprise here. The new DSW Pro series is nothing like the old PSW subwoofers, as they are greatly improved.

Yeah, the PSW pro are far more superior in performance and quality than their predecessors.By the way,SVS is not so bad choice with Paradigm Sub.
