Hi everyone,
I am looking at purchasing the RTi A9's but i need to replace my receiver first to be able to handle them. Since I am new to all of this and I do not know a lot about receivers, amps or pre's could someone please let me know what kind of set up they are using to power these bad boys? Or maybe make some suggestions?

I have powered the A9's with an older Onkyo 505 receiver, they are very efficient speakers. That being said I am looking to move into the Pioneer and see how that sounds, Sc-25 is very tempting and should handle it without additional power. I am not at this time interested in seperate amplification, but I will probably be in the future.

I'm a big fan of seperates, but going that route in one shot is a pricey maneuver, doing it at full retail is insane.
if you go with an upgraded reciever, make sure it has preouts, then down the road as the budget allows you can upgrade amplification as well and use your reciever as the pre (many people go this route). the RTi's dont crave the power like the LSi's do, but dont think upgraded amplification wont improve them, they will.Living Room 2 Channel -

dont be afraid to go the used route either, a used Outlaw 950 plus an external 5 channel amp used might be as mush or even less than a mid level reciever with preouts brand newLiving Room 2 Channel -

i to honest i have a big budget i am working with. I have been saving for a while and i would like to do it all in one shot if possible. I should have about $250 to put towards a AVR and/or pre/pros and amp.A/V Receiver...........Denon 1910

Welcome to the forum! Nice budget. The gang here will have that spent for you in no time. LOL.:D My Pio SC-05 pushes my A-9's pretty well by itself in a 5.1 setup. Nice line of AVR's.

a beefy avr will drive the a9s pretty good. I used my pio 92 to power them for a while and the sound was great. but after adding an amp it was a world of difference. even at lower volumes the sound is so much fuller and detailed. I would get an avr with all the power, bells and whistles you'll need for awhile and if budget allows add an amp. as mentioned above, don't be afraid of the used market, there are a couple nice amps here in the fm.panasonic th-50pz85u

your set on the sub, I would ge the RTi9's, upgrade to the CSi6 (big centers for the win bro, trust me on this)
Outlaw 990 pre
used amplification, one 5 channel or 3 2 channel, maybe a 3 chanel and a 2 channel. Do a search here for the used amp faves. Adcom, Rotel, Carver, Sunfire (pricey but good).
if you have to go new on the amplification front, Emotive or Outlaw us all I can think of to stay in budget.
unless you find a beefy reciever used for a great price, dont go reciever (definitely not new)
some might not agree with me but seperates are the way to go, especially since you have some cheddar there.
an RTi front stage powered by good amplification?, your pretty much dont on the theater dept, now about 2 channel............:pLiving Room 2 Channel -

I agree with most posts above. But I'd have trouble recommending an Outlaw 990 when he has that kind of budget. Or at least one should point out the following:
the 990 has been around a while now, so the price is pretty good, but the price is low because it doesn't have HDMI inputs/switching nor does it support the new HD audio formats w/o using analog inputs.
This is a tough time in home theatre i think because most of the boutique brands with reasonable prices (ex. outlaw, emotiva, and ati) have not released a HDMI receiver yet.
Leaving only the mass produced recievers and the boutique brands that aren't reasonably priced.
So i imagine anyone's best recommendation would have to depend on whether or not you were interested in the HDMI connections.
If you don't care, then the Outlaw is a steal at $700 new, less if you go used / b-stock route. I can't imagine you'd go wrong with a 990/7125 combo or stepping up to a 7500 instead of the 7125 if you plan to stay at 5.1. But the market is flooded with pre/pro and receivers in your price range.. If used is an option, I'd look at B&K 507 (receiver) or Reference 50 (pre/pro) + Amps. You should check out audiogon for used gear if you don't already know about it.
If you are interested in HDMI you could go with the Onkyo PR-SC886. It is the only pre/pro that i know that isn't too expensive, others may know of more. You could match that with an external amp, like the outlaw 7500/7125, Emotiva or ATI multi-channel amps. Otherwise you could just get a good receiver with preouts and the HDMI features you want. Then maybe add two to three channels of separate amplification. Or just go for the best receiver you can buy and be done with it.
I guess the moral of this story is that you have a ton of options. So have fun with that. I doubt you would go wrong with just about any of them. -
I hear your point on the outlaw, its prob not cuting edge anymore, I ususally avoid the cutting edge, focusing more on sound quality. Heck, i still run 5.1, most my friends dont notice or care when I throttle my theater up
It does have DVI out switching, which is easily converted to HDMI. it either comes with the converters or the guy I bought it from just had them.....I dont use them though, had too much issues with HDMI on the TV side (occasional flashes and whatnot).
given the budget, I allocated the speakers in with the budget.......I still stick by upgrading the center being important as well as a focus on good amplification. there are lots of way to go here though, the OP will have to take it all in and make a choice.Living Room 2 Channel -

well if you don't mind that its not an authorized dealer, Kmart has those adcoms for a good price too if you want to go new on an amp.Main 2ch -

I think we're going to confuse this guy with all the possibilities above...My advice is to SECOND the PIONEER ELITE SC-07 or SC-27 whichever you can find....that will have enough power to run the A9s and if you 'really' want more you can add it later.. plus it sounds GOOD! Take a listen and see what you think....the new Onkyo TX-SR 5007 also might be something you might want to hear! See which sound you prefer...both have ample power.

THank you so much for your help. Infact i do want to stay with HDMI. Everything i have is ran through HDPI and i am happy with it so far.
I forgot to even include HPMI inputs in my list of what i was looking for.
As far as the CSI A6 goes, i plan on purchasing it today. I am sold on the speaker itself after reading everyones opinion on the upgrade. Thanks Everyone.A/V Receiver...........Denon 1910

I have been looking at this receiver. It seems to have everything i might need.
Is there any real advantage going with the Onkyo TX-SR 5007 over the PIONEER ELITE SC-07 or SC-27?A/V Receiver...........Denon 1910
