Help with sub

Hi all.....Merry Christmas

Looking to run dual subs with an onkyo 807. Currently have RTi a9 in front and CSi a6 center. Not sure if its the lack of an amp but not really getting no bass from the RTi a9.

Will it effect a sub having it set flat on the floor(carpet)? Should it be elevated to eliminate any bad vibration that will affect sound quality?

2-PSW505 $$$$$$$$229.00 Each Retail $599.00

2-DSW MICROPRO 4000 $$$$$$$$699 Each. Retal $1699.00

2-SVS PB-12 Plus $$$$$$$$$$750.00 Each + shipping

Listen more to music over HT......60/40......18 x 23 room.

Any recommendations are very much appreciated.

Joe

You will probably get a lot of nods for the SVS subs, they are beasts. However, Polk subs are not slouches either, and for the price of the 505 it is a very good performer. I have heard many good things about it on this forum. If you have the cash, I would probably get the SVS's and forget about having to upgrade your sub for the rest of your life, lol.

    Welcome to club !

What are you trying to solve ?

The RTiA9s can produce some bass but need plenty of power but I would think the Onk could come close.

Bass is trickly and can be elusive. Location, setup in room and AVR plus sound panals should give you plenty of bass for music but not for HT.

Provide room layout and listening position from speakers and distances from back wall and all that stuff and what you goals are and you will get plenty of help here at CP.

No matter what you choose for a sub setup is the key. I could not find the right setup without Room EQ Wizard (REW). Your room is about 4000cf and depending your desires you will need a big ported sub.

Dual subs are a pain to get right. I prefer one big ported sub for HT. I went down the 2 and 3 subs in a room road using REW and a sub filter like BFD1124 road and it nearly drove me crazy until I went with the popular SVS PB13. I do not use a sub for music but for HT it was required. I hate botteming out a sub or not not having enough LFE.

Yep, what these guys said.....I ran dual PSW10's in my system and it was a real pain getting them set up corrcetly, I think when it was all said and done those 2 subs touched every square inch of the den floor before finding something that sounded good. Like Jeff said SVS seems to be popular and pricey. Personally, I would go used and get more for your money.

I agree go with the SVS...

But it sounds like you could also use a 2 CHANNEL POWER amp of 2-300watts/channel for the Rti-9s...

Here's another idea...check the connections on the back of those speakers and make sure all 4 speaker terminals are screwed down tight.

I remember when I got my towers I had NO highs coming out of ONE speaker...stupid me...the terminals for the tweeters were not tight enough for the jumpers to make contact with the plates under them?

Congrats, those are very highly regarded subs around here, get them setup right and that will be one upgrade you will never have to worry about. Like the guys said, setting up dual subs can be a pain, but is not impossible. Move em around and take your time to get them just right.

Well thanks for the Hi-5's but after sleeping on it I had to cancel. Must be the worst customer ever. Buyers remorse, but didnt feel this was adaquate. The SVS salesman was pushing the PB12 plus so Im sure he felt I still needed more boom in my big room. The NSD's are nice but want more. Like the 525 basher amp.:D

It's your call...but 2 X PB12s not enough for your room? Hardly...your room is big but not that big!

Good luck on the new purchase!

Sorry for the confusion, I was meaning the NSD is too small for my taste. The PB 12 would be perfect paired in my room. But 2200.00+ shipping.:(
Might be a steal at the price but for me hard to justify.

Yeah, that is a bit spendy, but hard to find a better sub out there than the PB12. You probably would have been set for life, lol. I can't argue with you though, that is a lot of coin to be dropping around the Holidays. Good luck and keep us updadted.
