I have a lightly used subwoofer amp for a PSW10 and I'd like to give it to the first person who needs it.

You never know when you may have a blown amplifier and if you do, you'll already have a replacement.

This might be extra important if you're out of warranty. All I ask is that if you see someone who needs it and at the time you don't, hook them up.

The first person to say AYE! will get it shipped free to their door.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

This would have been handy to run a pair of bass shakers in my HT. Guess I'm getting too slow in my old age. Nice Karma Dorokusai

^ I hear ya! I am planning a DIY sub build with a old CV sub. Was thinking going passive but that plate would have been sweet to add.

Damn it. Why does stuff like this always come up when my electricity is out. If I would of had electrcity it would have been mine. Then I could have taken my sub off of the Zone 2 amp on my AVR.(<-don't ask). Cool karma doro, nice score Knucklehead

Doro, got the sub-amp today. You rock! My kid says thanks for the cool pencil. :)

Think I may run a couple of bass shakers with this thing.

    aye!

    AYE!

I ain't gonna lie to ya...I joined this forum out of desperation. See, I acquired an M&K 125 sub from an estate sale. It worked fine for a couple of weeks - that is up until last weekend when it started to hum.

From doing other searches about the problem it was mentioned to others having the same thing going on to disconnect all sources except the power and that if the hum was still there then the problem was in the sub itself. I did and it was.

However, the more I read the more conflicting the solutions were; one said he fixed his problem by replacing the power supply caps on the amp, another said it could be a lifted ground, yet another said it could be a transformer issue.

After reading the first few posts I see where knucklehead has this same sub in his arsenal of A/V components.

Knucklehead...would you be so kind as to send me a copy of the manual? Does it contain a schematic for the PC circuitry? If not, does anyone know where I can find one? I've searched the web high 'n low with no luck.

Barring that, does anyone know where a replacement amp can be had?

I really miss this in my woodshop's sound system and would like to get it back.

Of course, if there are other suggestions out there, like "remove the back plate and look for this or that, then I'm up for that as well.

I appreciate any and all help I can grab onto.

I thought they were bought by ABT. Have you contacted them? What are the measurements of the plate amp? including the amount of screws? You may be able to get a Parts Express amp depending on the dimensions. Since you work with wood, even if its the wrong size I'm sure you could figure something out.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I went to the Parts Express web site right after reading your response and was able to have a live chat with "Chris" and explained my problem. According to him, the Dayton SA240 is the amp to use.

Now, a couple other questions for you lads...

The M&K V-125 has a transformer bolted to the bottom of the case - can this be removed?

The cavity in the box is partially filled with that batting stuff - ya know, the stuff that goes in between layers of a quilt? It's white 'n fluffy? My wife has a boatload of it around here, should I fill it up a little more? It's quite loose and there's an awful lot of free space in there.

    Thanks again

Leave it how it is. The transformer should be able to be removed as long as it was for the old amp, does not leave a hole in the cabinet and is not needed for impedance matching for the speaker.

    Dorokusai,
Is your above offer still available? I am very new to forums. However, My husband is a disabled American Veteran. Joel Served in the U.S. Air Force in the Electronic Warfare Systems field. His has been 100% disabled since 2010 due to his service connected disability. Since he can't walk or hold down a job due to chronic pain etc. his hobby is building computer systems and working on his audio equipment. He has the Polk PSW10 Sub-woofer with a bad amp. Due to the lack of funds, his has not been able to afford an oscilloscope and other necessary testing equipment.
I would like you to consider him a candidate for you most kind and generous offer. If you still have the above item or if you can point him to the best place for a replacement amp I am sure he would be most gracious. It's all Greek to me, but he said something about one of the capacitors going bad. . . .

    Thanks you for your time.

    Respectfully,

    Sandra Kelly

    Hello Sandra,
Welcome to Polk's forum. It would be best to contact Polk's CS department manager, Kim Jasper, at: 1-800-377-7655 ext 208 or send him an email to: kjasper@polkaudio.com. I'll let him know of your situation and I'm sure he can help.
