www.imeem.com

Click that link, witness the horror.

That site used to be Pandora on steroids. GREAT quality streams, and you could find ANYTHING. I repeat, ANYTHING.

I spent a good 50+ hours a week with my browser pointed to that site, listening to music that was recommended here, or just exploring, or just enjoying the convienence of listening to my favorite artists at work without having to bring in my whole cd collection.

MySpace bought them for under $1 Million. Ridiculous.

TOM CAN GO TO HELL.

Even if i WANTED to create a myspace page, i still can't listen to any music on that site at work, because it's flash-based, and Imeem wasn't. My week is ruined.

I'm still livid over this. How am i supposed to discover new artists now? Pandora didn't seem to have the same level of "all-encompassing" that this site had... I've bought so many cds because of imeem it's ridiculous.

And Pandora doesn't work at work, either. :(

I may need to go home and drink for a fallen friend.

Well... it happened yesterday. So. Yes. I'm still livid.

I'm unsure what outsourcing has to do with this. Listening from work is only a part of it... i haven't found another site that had the same content level, and i used it at home constantly as well. Are you implying that i should be outsourced?

No, just the first thing that popped into my mind was that in 25 years at work I never had the need/want to even remotely worry that a certain website didnt function at work.

Then I just envisioned a local guy at a call center waiting for his favorite song to finish....participating in a speaker forum...updating his twitter...sexting with his girlfriend...christmas shopping on amazon...etc before answering his phone with a customer waiting to be helped.

Somehow I dont see the call centers overseas having those issues....outsourcing was just a metaphor.

Yes, you are but I saw the thread title and chose to view the post anyway because I thought there was going to be more trouble with the cops for you. I wanted a good laugh. There was still a laugh but it wasn't quite as good.

Ah gotcha, i understand what you're saying now. :) The bulk of my frustration is from the fact that one of the last great music exploration tools is now gone, unless you want to wade through Myspace's BS, not necessarily that it didn't work while i was at work. I got along just fine before i knew it existed. :p

Whether this site is here or not, i'll still listen to music at work. I've moved past direct customer service, and i tend to be more productive if i can drown out all the hubbub around me with some tunes cranked. I work IN a call center, but i no longer take calls, and for that, i'm eternally grateful. ;)

wow...that's EXACTLY what I used to do when I worked at a call center for HP! Although I tended to do all that WHILE I was on the phone with the customer and waiting 10 minutes for them to find the power switch.

you lucky lucky man. I used to work in a call center but well never had the opportunity to acutally do anything else besides take calls. We would typically average 12-15 calls an hour, and it was right right after another so getting to listen to music or do anything else was never heard of.
but then again I'm at a bank so you always have people, I've lost my card, I want you to waive 411566415611556161561 dollars in overdraft fees. man what I would have given to be able to listen to music that would have made my day a lot better then.
woot no more of that for me!

I put my time in on the phones... between two jobs, i've worked 3 years on the phones. First place was really high volume, high pressure, 200+ calls a day, next place was a little slower pace, but a ton of knowledge needed, and NOTHING was easy. Luckily, i had enough interest in learning why people would call in pissed off that now my job is trying to make sure that they are happy enough to NOT call in.

We'll say that my job is to keep numbers consistent on accounts across two or three vendors, across four or five group accounts using those vendors. ;) If i have to get on the phone, it's usually to chew someone else's head off. Otherwise, i plug away at my numbers, and make sure that synching is done in a timely fashion.

For instance, right now i'm posting on here, at work, simply because i'm running yet another "digger" to see what the discrepancies between us and CVS Caremark are so i can get yet another report dumped to me, and then i can start researching and fixing the issues.

Phones MIGHT be better. I just don't have to talk to people where i am right now.

I honestly don't miss being on phones at all. I first did a customer care job in a call center, pretty easy but boring and yeah. I was happy when the moved me to emails so that way I didn't have to actually talk to the customers as I would tend to get annoyed by some people and their problems. You made me spend more money in my account than I had....no sir I didn't, if you would actually keep track of how much money you have then you wouldn't OD your account for the 157th time in the last 2 months. That **** gets old fast.
I then went to an internal call center called the bank hotline where I worked for awhile. That wasn't bad. It was mostly problem solving and worked pretty well with my school schedule that I had. Learned a TON about how things work and its great for where I am now.
Legal, I get to do foreclosures and all that fun stuff. lol I love it but honestly if I talk to someone behind me that is the most human interaction I have all day long. Apart from that I review my files and stare at a computer. I enjoy it but hope someday to have some human interaction lol.

It's over-rated. A computer rarely **** about it's day, tells you things you'd rather not hear, or asks you for a dime or quarter for the drink machine. Human interaction is good if you can find a like-minded person, but why chance it when you know where you can find a bunch of like-minded people... On the internet.

    go here

    http://translate.google.com/#

Pop link in and hit translate...

Within google it will bring up the site in MOST cases, but not always. Since you are not going directly to that site most Firewalls wont catch it since its a google search...
